How to do an Instagram Story – A Quick Guide

Always wondered how to do an Instagram Story – here is a simple quick guide!

Instagram Stories are a really great way of telling your story and really, when you think about it, marketing is simply about telling stories. Stories about your products, your services, you, what you do and how you work. This is what really attracts brides to you and engages them aswell.

I love Instagram Stories because it is a nice and easy way to get your real story out there in a natural and quick way.

But you may wonder how to do one – here is a very simple quick start guide to doing an Instagram Story.

TOP TIP – If you pop your phone on airplane mode you can practice without the worry that the video will actually be posted!

Instagram Stories is just one possible way of getting visible with your brides and visibility is something that is a constant thread running through your business. It is part of The Path of being a successful wedding biz, just one piece of the puzzle.

How to do an Instagram Story

  • Open Instagram
  • Press the little camera icon on the top left of your screen
  • Your screen will show up like a video
  • Down the bottom of your screen you will see various options which you can explore but for your first one we want to make sure we are set on normal
  • Tap the circle button at the bottom to take a photo or hold it down to take a short 15-second video
  • You can switch the camera around just like a normal photo to face you or away from you
  • You can add a filter by pressing the face icon and choosing the one you want (you can add a filter afterwards aswell)
  • As you record the video, a little circle will start running so you will know when it will cut out (this gets easier to manage the more you do!)
  • You can then edit the photo or the video by adding text, stickers and gifs by pressing the buttons on the top right
  • You can also remove the playback sound by pressing the speaker icon
  • Tap done
  • You can swipe left or right to add a filter
  • The story will not share until you tap the “add your story” icon on the bottom left
  • You can keep adding stories or pics and they will stitch together in the order that you record them
  • They last for 24 hours
  • You can also save your stories by pressing the “Save” icon and you can share it as a post once it is live if you want.

Simple!

But there may be one thing that is stopping you from doing this and that is your confidence.

How to break the email SPAM filter!

How to break the email spam filter

It is super frustrating when you have spent ages crafting that email and then you hear nothing back from your bride. You assume it is because it is not what they wanted, but, what if instead it was because your email had landed in their spam folder? Here is a super quick trick to help you break the spam filter.

Why do emails end up in spam?

Everyone’s spam filter will be different, mine can be super sensitive sometimes (annoyingly), but normally emails end up in spam because they have an attachment, have an image in the email or have a word that is considered inappropriate (by who I am not sure!). It may also be if you are sending an email from an @gmail account rather than a business account it could end up in spam.

But if you are getting lots of your emails ending up in spam then you could be missing out on bookings and that is not good.

Here is a simple way to break the spam filter.

Let’s say you have emailed a bride a quote – there is likely to be an attachment. This could have stopped the email landing in their primary inbox. So all you need to do is, one or two days after you have sent the email send a plain text email (with no images or attachments) saying something like

“Hi [bride]

I just wanted to check that you received the quote safely yesterday?

It would be great if you could just hit reply and let me know.

[sign off]”

OK, so you may want to add some YOU-ness into it but essentially you want to keep the email super short and clear – you want them to say “Oh yes, thank you…”

This works in three ways

  1. It tells their email provider that you are someone that they want to hear from because they have responded to an email – this will prevent your future emails going into spam

  2. It opens the conversation – they may ask you some questions

  3. If the email has landed in spam then they (and you) will know

Do you send a freebie? You could do this again.

You could also do this as an automated email after you have sent your bride your freebie*. Set up an automated email in your email provider (MailChimp is what I recommend). Saying something similar to the above and just checking that they have received it safely. Again, this helps to open the conversation and break the spam filter!

So, add this into your workflow and see what difference it makes for you.

*If you don’t know what a freebie is, it is something that you offer your brides in exchange for their email address. It could be a free checklist, a wedding planning tool – just something that they would find useful. It’s free and you deliver it through setting up automation inside of MailChimp (a free system you use to collect the deets) and this is how you build your mailing list (and your bride bookings!).

I teach that to. HOW TO BOOK MORE BRIDES.

To put it simply, I work with wedding business owners to help them find what they need to do to book more brides. Coupled (pardon the pun…) with easy to follow, practical, step by step and real tools, know hows and guidance so that the stuff that feels hard, isn’t.

In this crazy wedding industry you need to step up, stand out and be different in order to thrive, to keep those bookings coming in. You need to get out there, attract your ideal bride, deliver an amazing bride experience and be visible doing it, You have to leave your mark. You have to be the flamingo in the flock of pigeons (see, I told you the flamingo thing had a meaning!).

But first, you have to believe that you can.

How do I attract my soul bride?

Attracting your Soul Bride

24 OCTOBER 2017 // BIZ SH*T

Your soul bride is your perfect bride. The bride that you would want to work with each and every day in your business. The bride that loves the kinds of weddings you want to be part of. The kind of bride that matches your personality, both your business personality and yours (they should be heavily interlinked anyway). To attract these brides into your business you need to

#1 Write words and post image that they will be attracted by

#2 Put those words and images in places they will look

Sounds simple right?

That’s because it is when you think about it. But let’s get practical. The words and images you use need to draw your bride into you, you need to talk about things that they care about, things that worry them, things that they want to have for their wedding. Let’s say you are trying to draw in a modern bride, you will want to post about current trends, you will want to fill your social media feed and your website with images and colours that are in line with the look and feel that they want for their wedding because they will be drawn in my this.

This is why it is so important to understand your soul-bride

The long and short of good content for your wedding business (and this is what attracts bride to you), post the kinds of things that your soul-bride would be attracted to.  If you want some training on identifying your soul-bride, grab y free 6-part training series that will help >> http://www.weddingbizcoach.com/moochtosmooch/

Let’s look at some examples

Let’s say you want to attract a bold, fun, quirky bride into your business, then you need to fill your social media and your website with bright bold images that will draw them in, that will make them stop and look. You will want to write about things like “How to infuse your personality into your wedding” and you want them to see that you have the same kind of style.

Let’s say you are a photographer and you want to fill your order book with couples who want natural story telling photography rather than more traditional wedding photography, then make sure your website and your social media is filled with storytelling style shots and not traditional shots.

Let’s say you are building your portfolio and you have done a couple of weddings. Some your perfect setting, your perfect look and feel, your perfect type of dream future work wedding. Some not so great. Let’s say you are aiming for a bride who likes the finer things in life and you have been involved in a wedding at a gorgeous venue. That is what you want to feature on your website, on your social media, in your content, in your portfolio. But let’s say you have also been involved at a wedding in a more budget hotel which has a different look and feel that doesn’t match your dream weddings. Don’t feature this because it will dilute your brand. Only share things that say the right thing about what you want to be known for.

It is better to have one less perfect wedding featured than lots of different types of wedding because this will dilute the impact of attracting your soul-bride and that is what we are doing here.

Filter time

Before you post anything on social media, on your website, on your blog, in your newsletter ask yourself these simple questions

Is this representing the quality of my business?

Is this giving the right look and feel to what I am all about?

Is this stopping people from buying from me?

Do I feel happy and confident with this content/image?

If you find yourself answering these on the negative all the time then think about what you need to do to change this in the future because until you do, you will struggle to build that dream portfolio of soul brides.

Do your old Facebook Photos paint the picture you want them to?

Do your old Facebook Photos paint the picture you want them to?

23 MAY 2017 // YOUR PROFILE AND VISIBILITY

Let me ask you a question. If you went over to your Biz Facebook page now and looked through the photos tab, what would you think? Do they tell the story you want them to? Do they support the brand you are building and the brides you are trying to attract? Do they feel “right” for you in your biz now?

Let’s scroll down a little.

How bad do they get? Honestly.

First off, don’t these photos really show you how far you have come and how you have evolved as a business? I love it!

Let’s think of a bride for a moment. She has found you, through whichever channel and she is being nosey – trying to figure out whether you are the one for them. She heads straight over to Facebook and looks at your photos.

What does she think? Is she like “Oh yes, that is what I want!” or is she thinking “This is a random modge podge of everything!”.

I remember when I was getting married (back before Pinterest was a thing!). We had been to see our venue, had fallen in love and then went on a search when we got home for images on the internet, just so we could drool over the venue and imagine our big day happening there.

I bet you your brides do the same.

Whatever service you offer, I bet they go and look at your photos when they are in research mode.

So I have some actions for you.

01.

Go to your Facebook Page now and take a look at your photos tab, seeing all your photos together do they tell the story you want them to? Let’s say, for example, your ideal bride is someone who is looking for a minimalist, elegant wedding and your photos are all bright, colourful and don’t fall within that look and feel. Your bride is likely to be less drawn to you. Make a note of what you feel when you see the photos together and see what you can improve on going forward.

02.

Create albums! Did you know you can create albums in Facebook to help you organise your photos? Let’s say you have a ton which are wedding tips. Then let’s say you have some of venue styling, for example. Then let’s say you have ones which are promoting your blogs. You could put them into an album so that when your bride comes over to your page, she can have a good old mooch around and you can control the aesthetic a little better.

Watch the training here and let me know if you have any questions!

Be mindful

Let’s say you were involved in a wedding that doesn’t really fit in with the weddings you would like to build your portfolio around. Really consider whether you want any images of it in your profile and on your website. The reason I ask you to ask yourself this is that you are trying to build a brand that will appeal to your ideal bride, if there is a random “off brand” wedding in your portfolio (which is kinda what all your social media is) then it is likely to put your bride off.

So, do your photos tell the story you want them to on Facebook? We consider Instagam in this way, do why not Facebook. Your brides are hanging out there too.  If you want to read more about this thought process for Instagram, then you can here >>>

I’ll show you mine if you show me yours!

Here is mine at the time of writing this blog >>>

I feel that these images tell my current story. They have the perfect blend of me and what I am about. I can look at these and see where I want to make improvements and what I can do to add more of me into them but I feel that they represent me at the moment.

Here is mine way back when >>>

I feel like these show the start of my journey. They are not wrong or bad but they show me how far my brand has come and how much I have changed in my voice.

Just one final word here. I do not want you to start getting stressed about “another” social media channel that you need to perfect “I didn’t think Facebook was about having perfectly curated images!”. It isn’t, but everything you put on social media is showcasing your work, the weddings you are involved in and this in itself means that it becomes your portfolio, your online magazine. It becomes a decision for your brides between book or not to book. So don’t get stressed but be mindful of what you are posting and make a conscious effort to know that what you post is building your brand, or damaging it.

Are you losing business from not doing this?

Reply To Enquiries.

25 APRIL 2017 // BIZ SH*T & BRIDE EXPERIENCE

Are you losing business from this?

I have emailed 5 separate companies over the past few days about various things that I am sourcing for my business and I have not had ONE response.

Not ONE.

What does this mean?

01. It makes me think that they are too busy to do my work

02. It makes me think that if they are that slow coming back when I am enquiring about work what is the service going to be like?

03. It makes me wonder if I have offended them!

04. It makes me wonder if their contact form is not working on their website or emails are going into their spam folder.

Whichever of those 4 are right, they are losing my business.

WHAT IS THE LESSON?

01. Reply to enquiries quickly!

To help to do this set up some email templates that you can use again and again so you are not typing out every time. You can set these up as simple word docs that you can use or you can set up templates within your emails to make it super effective. This works because you can carefully craft your reply and just spend a few minutes each time personalising (because that is super important for this industry).

02. Consider setting up an out of office return email.

So people know that you have actually received their email and you will come back to them. You can also use this as an opportunity to point them to your portfolio or perhaps your fav social media account.

03. Check that the contact form on your website is actually working.

Send yourself a test email and see if you get the email. This is one of the most common mistakes I see businesses make and it is so easily dealt with (and also such a silly one!).

Remember that when a bride has emailed you, it is likely that she has emailed others at the same time so make sure you are the one that creates the best experience. If “sort wedding florist” is on the to-do list for that day, what is your bride going to do? She is going to email all the wedding florists that she has shortlisted.

Also, when a bride emails you see is “In the wedding planning zone” and this is the best time to nab their attention because they are ready for a conversation. And once you get the conversation going, you are onto a winner.

Now I know you are not going to be sitting on your emails every second of every day but make sure you are checking in with it at regular intervals when your brides are likely to email. Like first thing in the morning on the way into work, over lunchtime, on the evening after work. Be aware of your bride’s engagement times and engage with them at those times.

6 Reasons Why Blogging will Book You Brides

6 Reasons Why Blogging will Book You Brides

18 APRIL 2017 // CONTENT

When I start working with my wonderful wedding biz clients one of the first questions I ask is “Do you blog regularly?” (Well actually I take a sneaky look at their website before the call of course but I like to ask the question to see what the reaction is). This is often answered with three responses

01. Ummm no…what is a blog?

02. Yes and I blumin love it!

03. I kinda do but don’t think I am doing it right.

Whichever answer you are, it is OK, you have taken the first step to reading this blog to find out why it is so great for your wedding biz so you have taken the first step – whoop! I know that the word blogging can make you shudder…it feels so grand! But blogging is basically writing. Writing an article, a newsletters, a journal entry, a post – it is just writing.

Blogging can be transformationational to your business.

Really.

Brides read blogs. Blogs are simply wonderful at driving traffic (your brides) to your website.  There are lots of elements of blogging that need to be considered like What to post, where to post, how to make the  most of the post, but once you have that sussed, it is really super duper easy – trust me. You just need to get into the blogging flow.

There are so many brides reading blogs, it is a shame to miss out on this chance! Using apps such as Bloglovin, Google Plus, Pinterest and all sorts of others, you can get great exposure from blogs if they are done right.

Six Reasons why blogging is worth your while if you are a wedding business:

01. Blogging gives you a reason to post on social media. One of the biggest grumbles I hear from people when I say “You need to post on social media consistently” is “OK, Emma, that is fine BUT WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO POST?”. From ONE blog post you could have a week’s worth of social media posts. Seriously.

02. Blogging drives traffic to your website (Pst traffic = your brides). One of the trickiest things to growing your wedding biz can be to move brides from your social media to your website (where they can then have a mooch around and see what you have to offer) but blogs are a great way of directing traffic to your website. They close that gap. They provide the step. Once your bride has landed on your website you have a better chance of converting them to a bride (because you can capture their email by offering a freebie or if that fails you can use a Facebook pixel to re-target them – those are topics for another day!).

03. Blogging demonstrates your expertise. It can feel a little (OK very) icky shouting all the time saying “I know what I am doing! OVER HERE! HELLLOOOOOO BRIDES! I am FAB at what I do! You NEED to have me at your wedding!!”. We find it very difficult to blow our own trumpets, especially as women, we can easily slide behind praise and blush slightly. But you know what, you have SO much knowledge and expertise about what you do. If you have been in the industry for a long time then you have all that expertise and you know your stuff! If you have just started out then you have the passion and the desire that you can share in a big way. Blogging helps you demonstrate your expertise because when you write you will talk about things that you know and this will in turn showcase your expertise without being really obvious. And brides will connect with you more with this expertise.

04. Blogging builds trust. We are all suspicious as purchasers but Brides can be super suspicious because of horror stories that happen in the wedding industry, companies going bump, letting brides down, not delivering or just being scammed. They are not just buying something for a party – they are buying a piece of the perfect – most amazing day of their life puzzle so they are understandably a little more cautious. If you blog regularly then you will be seen as “proper” and brides will have an easier time trusting you because they will see that you are active and you get the industry. This will help you convert more brides to booked brides.

05. Blogging helps you get found easier. This is for a number of reasons but the main one is that Google loves websites that have new content added to them regularly. Because then they know you are an active website and therefore they will prioritise you in the search engines. That’s gotta be worth it alone right! ALSO the more interesting blogs you have on your site the longer your brides will stay on your site and Google likes that to because it means you can be trusted because you are clearly delivering what you say you are going to. If you cross link your blogs then they are going to stay around for even longer.

06. Blogging moves your brides closer to your products or services. If you are clever with your blogging you can link your blogs through to products or services you offer in a genuine way and this means that your brides will find what you have to offer easier and therefore are more likely to read more about what you have to offer and become a booked bride.

I could go on with the reasons why blogging is brilliant for your wedding business but I will stop there.

To finish up this blog post here are a few other hints and tips to good blogging. If you would like more, keep an eye out on my You Tube Channel because I am going to be starting a blogging mini series over there to help you get started. CLICK HERE

The key to good blogging?

  • Writing content that your brides want to read, that demonstrates your expertise, that feds to your website, that draws brides closer to you.
  • You need to use good imagery, good headlines and they need to be written well.
  • They also need to be promoted well – there is no point writing a blog, popping it on your website and hoping that brides will find it…you need to promote it!

ACTION

So if you are regularly blogging them see how you can improve what you are doing OR how you can make the most out of what you are doing. If you are not currently blogging then seriously consider whether it could be good for you (pst – the answer is it will be!) and start to take steps to build it into your future plans.

How Online Shops Could Boost Your Wedding Business Sales

11 FEBRUARY 2017 // BIZ SH*T

Welcome to Day 3 of the Valentines Biz Growth Series! So we have covered social media over the past few days because that is the #1 place brides will start their search. Read Tip #1 Pinterest here and Tip #2 Social Media here.

Today I want to talk about ONLINE SHOPS

Brides to be will spend a lot of time searching for suppliers on 3rd party shop sites such as Not on the High Street and Etsy. Are you on these sites?

If not, then have a think about whether they would work for you. This comes with a massive word of warning – don’t just go off now and start doing online shops in a knee jerk reaction – consider carefully whether they will work for you BEFORE you invest any time in them.

If you are not a product service, you can still look at the likes of Etsy to consider whether you can offer your services through the platform. There are lots of service based suppliers on Etsy and it could be a great addition to your business generation.

Anyone can become a supplier on Etsy and when I had my wedding stationery business it is how I ended up working with brides in San Francisco, in Italy, in Switzerland and all sorts of wonderful places in the UK from my little studio in Birmingham. Amazing. Becoming a supplier on Not on The High Street takes far more commitment and there are lots of hoops to jump through so consider this carefully before investing too much time and effort – you need to know it is right for you.

Today I want to focus on Etsy because I know it works!

 The pros of using Etsy:

  • You are taking advantage of the investment they make on SEO
  • You are reaching an international audience of brides
  • You have a captive audience who are looking for what you offer
  • If your website shop is not quite ready or your website is not up to scratch, this is a great way of you selling without the effort!

The cons of using Etsy:

  • You have to consider the % they take and make sure that it doesn’t dip too much into your profits (if it does you need to increase your prices because you are not charging enough!)
  • You have to update items every few weeks so that you appear higher in the searches – you have to carefully craft the descriptions you use for your products and services to ensure they have the right key words etc (which is not a bad thing!)
  • You need really nice images to stand out

Making Etsy work for you:

There are lots of things that go into making this work for you, if you would like me to go into this in more detail, comment below and I will add it to the blog schedule, but here are my top 3

01. The way you describe your products is crucial – you need to GRAB the brides attention straight away, you have no way of seeing who has clicked to your items unless they contact you so you need to do as much as you can to make it irrestible for them!

02. You have to use beautiful images to draw the eye in a busy search result

03. You need to keep adding new projects or updating descriptions so that you appear in the searches

Using Etsy can really drive sales to your business and is a great additional income stream for you to consider if you have not yet.

Your action

Take an honest look at whether Etsy would work for your business. Set the timer and spend 30minutes taking a look around the site and see what you could do to be part of the action. If you don’t feel like it is for you, don’t waste any time on it. If you do, then plan in when you are going to start to open that shop.

Remember, those newly engaged brides will no doubt be spending time looking on there so don’t dilly dally if you feel it could work for you – make it happen!

If you need help to get a project such as this from your head into practical actions that will actually get it done, then my Get (sh)It Done programme may be just what you need.

Don’t forget to come back Monday when I will talk about another way you can get in front of those newly engaged brides as part of the Valentines Biz Growth series.

Get Brides Early.

Get brides at the tarting stage.

3 NOVEMBER 2016 // YOUR BRIDES

Brides are fickle. To start with. They don’t know what they want, who they want (supplier wise not partner wise!). They are confused by Pinterest everyday…changing the theme, the colour, the style, the…well everything!

So you need to catch them early whilst they are in this “tarting around” mode (i.e. the stage where they will sign up to everything and anything if it is free and to do with weddings!!).

Because after the excitement of PLANNING THE BIGGEST DAY OF THEIR LIVES passes, the overwhelm kicks in. And they get scared. They get more protective. They stop giving their email address. They stop going to wedding fairs. Because they are confused. They have a break from the search and then, they start making decisions – so you need to be there when they are making those decisions so they choose you.

How do you do this? 3 simple steps:

#1 You get in front of them

#2 You offer them something for nothing

#3 You send them emails every few weeks

Simple you say, Emma! Yeah, whatever!

Let me walk you through each step.

#1 You get in front of them

#1 To get in front of brides you need to be visible and you need to be visible in the places that they are going to be. Think about your ideal bride, the bride you want to build your business around, where does she hang out? Is she on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest? Take a look at the visibility tool here so you can see where is the best place for you to spend your time.

#2 You offer something for nothing

#2 Once they have found you, you need to offer something for nothing – a little freebie, a bride present. This is sometimes referred to as an opt-in or a bribe but I like to think of it as a little gift you give your brides for them giving you their email address. Now, this is not a physical thing. It is an online, downloadable thing that you email them.  Something like a wedding planner, a checklist, a how to, a fun poster, a wedding sign – something that your brides would want.

#3 You send them emails every few weeks

#3 Once you have their email address, you send them regular newsletters. THIS is what will get you the bookings. THIS is what will get a bride to click that book now button. Why? Well let’s take a walk in the shoes of your bride for a moment. When your bride gave you her email address, she was in the “tarting” stage – she was free and easy with her email address – this was likely to be when she first got engaged. Let’s say that was 12 months ago. She will have forgotten about you UNLESS you have been popping up in her inbox with good quality content that she wants to read, with a brand that is strong and attractive and with a clear and obvious link back to what you do and how you can help her have her perfect wedding.

Newsletters are the best way* of building the know, like and trust factor with your brides and a bride has to feel at least one of these before she will book you.

Yes, you do need to know how to do them and you have to use a software for this – I recommend MailChimp because it is free and it is awesome. You cannot send build emails using your email address – this is bad for a whole host of reasons – never ever do that.

Take action

So the take away from this post really is to say, you need to get brides early and then build the know, like and trust up with them and then they will enquire with you, book you, buy from you (see post here).

*The other good way is blogging but that is a topic for another day!

How to book brides – the 5 Point bride attraction plan

Get brides to book you – your 5 point bride attraction plan

2 NOVEMBER 2016 // PROFILE

How can I book more brides?

This is the question you probably ask yourself every day. Hope can I book more brides. Well today I want to tell you what you need in place to do just that!

  1. You need to get in front of them – attraction
  2. You need to have something to sell that they want need to demonstrate the value of that product or service – engagement
  3. You need to make it easy for them to buy or book! – I do wed!

So let’s get started with attraction, in other words How you can get in front of brides.

Getting in front of your brides.

For brides to book you, they need to know you exist! So you need to get out there and stop hiding behind the to do list (come on, I know you are guilty of this – we can all be!). Sometimes it can feel like you are beavering away, working your butt of and you still don’t get the brides. Why? Because you are beavering away in the background doing things that only you can see – you are not telling anyone what you are doing and you are not putting it out there. It easy to fall into the trap of planning, I know, I have been there with diaries and planners strewn across my desk. You have to put stuff out there for people to find you.

So how do you do this? Here is your 5 point bride attraction plan!

#1 Social media

The ultimate free business tool! I know it can feel like you are doing social media all of the time and if it does, stand back and look at what you are doing. It is better to focus on one or two social media channels and do them really well rather that spewing over all of them and doing them half arsed.

  • Post once a day
  • Post good quality content (which basically means content that your brides are going to love)
  • Don’t just sell, sell, sell – show your brides you know your stuff by commenting and sharing ideas, trends, thoughts, wedding wisdom
  • Use a mixture of text posts, memes, photos and – shock horror – video if you are brave!
  • Engage with people who comment

Look at which social media channel is best for you – where are your brides. Are they on Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter – use the free visibility tool to help you decide >>> DOWNLOAD HERE

#2 Blogging

I know that the word blogging can make you shudder…it feels so grand! But blogging is basically writing. Writing an article, a newsletters, a journal entry, a post – it is just writing.

Blogging can be transformational to your business.

There are soo many brides reading blogs, it is a shame to miss out on this chance! Using apps such as Bloglovin, google plus, Pinterest and all sorts of others, you can get great expose from blogs if they are done right.

The other secret ingredient with successful blogging is the magic of Facebook pixels. Now, don’t run off to a dark room! They are not THAT scary. A pixel is simply a little bit of code that you get from Facebook, you add to your website, and it tracks who lands on your website. Then you can go and target them through Facebook adverts. This is the most effective way of running a Facebook Ad because the bride is already warm to you – they have already been on your website. This means they are more likely to engage with you, enquire with you, both with you.

So blogging is a great way of getting out there to your brides.

#3 Connecting with other suppliers

The power of connecting with others in the industry is oh so powerful for a number of reasons. It can drive brides to your business through referrals. Suppliers recommend suppliers, support each other, help each other grow, this is why having strong relationships with other suppliers can help you.

Not only will it help you grow your business, it will help you feel normal in your business.  Being surrounded by other suppliers helps you not feel alone in this scary landscape of entrepreneurship. When you feel good in business, you will do better, and having good people around you who understand you will help with that.

#4 Have something to give your brides as pressie

Let’s say your bride has found you on social media and they are not on your website. When a bride lands on your website, you are trying to draw them in closer to you and to your business and the best way of doing this is to offer them something for free. A free checklist, a free planner, a free downloadable printable, a free something your ideal bride will want to sign up for.

So you create a freebie and you promote this freebie and that is how you get brides onto your mailing list (more on that in a moment). Your freebie is a way of getting the email address of your brides so you can stay in touch with them, so you can help them in your newsletters, so you can show up in their inbox every couple of weeks.

To create your freebie you think about what your ideal bride (the bride you really want to work with) and you think about what she would love to receive as a freebie, a gift, a pressie. You then go and design this using a free online system called Canva and you set it all up on a email newsletter provider, I always recommend MailChimp. Then you get promoting it and you start getting brides on to your mailing list and you stay in contact with them with newsletters.

#5 Send your brides newsletters on a regular basis

The best way of drawing brides closer to booking you is to send newsletters. You have attracted them with your social media posts, they have landed on your website, they have signed up for your freebie. Now you need to send them helpful newsletters every few weeks so that they can get to know who you are, they can get to like what you have to offer and they get to trust you.

Know, like and trust is the magic formula for brides booking you and because are land in their inbox on a regular basis you are building each of these three things. Then when they are ready to book the service you offer they are more likely to remember you and book you.

So that is your 5 point visibility plan. How to get in front of your brides. Doesn’t seem too scary does it? The key thing at this attraction stage is knowing WHO you want to work you, your ideal bride, and putting content out there that is going to draw them to you, that is going to make you attractive to them.

I have detailed some extra resources for you below to help you more.

How to build the know like and trust factor so bride will book you

Brides need to know, like and trust you before they will move to the next step.

29 OCTOBER 2016 // YOUR BRIDES

Before a bride will book you, she needs to know you, she needs to like you and she needs to trust you. These are three key factors in a bride decision to purchase. You are the same right? Before you part with your money for anything, you want to know more about what you are buying and from who. Just remember the pressure that a bride is under when planning her wedding – she is embarking on this never done before massive life project and she wants it to be perfect. She needs to know you are the right one for her before she will take the next step.

So, let’s talk through the 3 factors and what you do to get them.

Your bride needs to know you

This one comes back down to visibility – for a bride to book you she has to know that you exist so you need to get out there (see this post).

You need to show up in their social media regularly

It needs to be clear who you are – as in YOU – who is the person behind the brand

It needs to be clear what you can help them with – don’t be afraid to talk about how you can help them – because that is what you are there to do

Post pictures of works in progress – behind the scenes – let them see your skill.

Your brides needs to like you

She needs to feel that you are the right fit for her and for her wedding. If she is after elegant and sparkles and you are all bright colours and quirky then this will not work (for either side!) so your brand and your style needs to resonate with your bride (and don’t worry, it is not going to appeal to everyone and that is a good thing)

For your brides to like you they need to get to know you a bit. So you need to let your personality and the personality of your business out of the box and into your words.

You need to land in their inbox every few weeks so they can get to know you – you do this with newsletters.

You need to add YOU into your brand and be visible as the person behind the brand because you are what makes your business different to the rest.

Your bride needs to trust you

If you are going to help them create their biggest day ever they need to know that they can trust you, that you are going to show up, not let them down and provide a crackin product or service.

You do this by sharing comments from happy brides, testimonials, social proof.

You do this by posting pictures of things you have done, completed orders.

You do this by blogging about past brides.

You do this by showcasing your expertise and knowledge.

Once a bride feels at least one of these things, you are on to a winner. Just think of yourself. When did you last buy something until you had one of those feelings?  A bride is just the same as you (just with a few extra Bridezillas moments!!).

Your homework

Have a think about how you can incorporate more of the above in what you do. One small change may make a huge amount of difference. People buy people at the end of the day, remember that one.

How to Create a Bride Welcome Pack

What is a bride welcome pack and why do I need one?

12 MAY 2016 // BRIDE EXPERIENCE

Have I made the right decision?”

Hands up…who has spent money on something in the past and then thought, “Oh heck, have I made the right decision?!”

How about if you are making lots of decisions about something at the same time. You have lots of ideas (thank you Pinterest…!).And you just don’t know which is the right one to make.

Then, imagine if that decision is going to make or break the most special day of your life ….

Dramatic I know!

But, that is what a bride feels like ALL OF THE TIME when they are planning their wedding.

They have lots of decisions to make and they have the most ridiculous amount of ideas. Pinterest is great BUT it is also super duper confusing for brides and grooms.

OK, back to you and the decision making…you finally choose what you want and you make the decision. And then you suddenly go “Oh, I’m not sure if I have made the right one…”

Imagine if you then got something in the post, or in your email that make you go “Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh!”.

In a good way.

Then you for from the “Have I made the right decision” to “WOW WOW WOW!”

This is what you want your brides to do when they buy from you.

Remember, your brides are normal people to…ok, so the bridezilla ones are a little scary…but they have the same buying behaviour as you. They want to be WOWed. They want to be impressed. They want to feel valued and loved (ah bless)

So, how can you do that with a bang? Well, let me tell you my wedding biz buddy!

With a welcome packet…

Have you ever heard of a bride welcome packet? They are blinkin AWESOME and I highly recommend that it is something you start doing in your wedding biz IF you are ready to really up-level your business.   A bride welcome packet is something you send to a bride and groom after they have decided that YOU are THE ONE for them!  You have bowled them over with your awesomeness and now you are going to WOW them, big time.  You are starting the client experience of right.

A welcome packet can be a PDF that you send through email, or, it can be a physical package that you send in the post. Everyone will have a different thought of what they want to do and I would suggest that you pick what works for you.

Other than WOWing your couples, your welcome pack has a functional purpose to. It sets out all of the bits and bobs of information that they need to know, things such as your office hours {so you stop having those calls at 10pm at night}, your payment terms {so you don’t have to waste time chasing for money and feeling ikky about it}, what to expect next {so you aren’t sending countless emails advising what happens now}. They are TONS are advantages to having a welcome packet.

“You’ll never guess what me [insert your awesome skill here] sent me! It is amazing! I am so glad I chose them! You HAVE to have them for your wedding!”

IT’S ALL ABOUT THE PACKAGING

Your welcome packet ALWAYS say that it has to reflect you. Yes, this is a practical thing to, but you are doing it because you want to WOW your brides so the look and feel is extremely important. It’s like giving someone a Tiffany Bracelet in an Asda carrier bag…it just doesn’t impress quite as much! It’s like at Christmas or Birthday, there is always “that friend” who has taken so long on wrapping the present, it looks sooo pretty that it makes you feel all excited and intrigued as to what is inside. It could be a pair of socks, but if the packaging is WOW then the emotion of excitement is still there – and you will love that pair of socks more than if you had the same pair of socks wrapped in the bag they came in with the price still on…I am waffling here but do you know what I mean?

SO, WHAT COULD YOU INCLUDE IN A WELCOME PACKET?

There are lots of things you can include in a welcome packet and here are just a few ideas:

  • A personal thank you note – a love note!
  • A welcome letter
  • A copy of the contract
  • FAQs
  • Contact Info Sheet
  • What happens next – the next steps
  • A little special gift
  • A discount code for future bookings/extra work
  • What else you can help them with
  • Social media deets
  • Refer a friend card

SO HOW DO YU DESIGN ONE SO IT LOOKS WONDERFUL

I would recommend the following steps

1. Decide on what you want to include

2. Write the words in a plain word document or your notebook

3. Use something like Canva to “jazz” it up and make it totally YOU

4. You can get it printed through an external print company such as printed.com or you could put together yourself or if you are sending via email just save as a PDF and send through your email provider such as MailChimp. Set it up as a template so it is super easy.

The power of the welcome packet cannot be denied. It may seem dramatic but it is these little changes that you start to make in your business than can really make you go from being the “Yeah she was OK” wedding supplier to the one that your brides RAVE about! And then the magic happens. Then they tell all their friends. Then you get referrals. Then you start to build an order book the easy way.
Welcome packets can be used across all the wedding industry. Whether you are a wedding photographer, a wedding planner, a wedding stationer, a cake maker, a florist, a bride shop, a venue, accessories, a musician, a hire shop – a – well ANYTHING really.
Remember the purpose of your welcome packet is to WOW and make you stand out. So even if it is just a personal note in a card with something thoughtful, that is enough. You do what feels right for you, for your personality and for your brand.  This is good stuff people. This is grow an awesome wedding business stuff. This is what will get you where you want to be.

Set an Email Auto Responder

Set up an email auto responder to grow your business.

21 MARCH 2016 // BRIDE EXPERIENCE & BIZ SH*T

So, each week I give you a challenge to help you grow a wonderful business and have a happy mind. This week I have chosen something that will take you 5 minutes to do but will help you in a number of ways. We are going to be setting an auto response on your emails so that when a bride emails you, she gets something back immediately.

Now, I know that this is one of those things that makes you think “Will that not just annoy my brides?!”. And, in all honesty, I don’t know whether it will or not because everyone will react differently.

Personally, I think that the advantages out way any negativity about out of office, but that is just my opinion. You may disagree  Having an auto response helps because it >>>

#1 Let’s your bride know that you have had the email and that you will respond – she is happy

#2 You don’t feel guilty about not checking your emails every 2 seconds – which is no good for your motivation or your work flow

#3 You can use it as a good way to grow your social media audience! – bonus!

For your auto response you could say something like…

“Thank you so much for getting in touch, it is lovely to hear from you! Just a little note to say that I have received your email safely and I will come back to you, during busy times I check emails a couple of times a day so I have lots of time to work on [whatever your awesome skill is] for all my lovely customers! Whilst you are here, why not take a look at the [blog] and take a peek around [Facebook/Instagram/Pinterest/Twitter] to see more about [your biz name]. Have a wonderful day! [Sign off]”

10 Tips for your first consultation meeting

Can we meet? Those words you can’t wait to hear (and also dread!)

8 APRIL 2016 // BIZ SH*T & BRIDE EXPERIENCE

Can we meet? Those words you have been waiting to hear…you have done ALL the hard work and you have got in front of your brides and you have wowed them and now they want to meet to discuss how you can help them!

Two emotions stike…WHOOP, YAY, WOOOOOO HOOOOOOO and then OH SHIT…I HAVE GOT TO TO DO THIS?! PANIC I DON’T KNOW WHAT I A DOING!!

In this week’s masterclass I am sharing with you 10 tips for that first meeting so you can feel calm, composed and so you can totally BOSS that first meeting! Watch the video below >>>

The 10 Tips in summary

#1 Be yourself! This is super important because they have to see the passion and love you have for what you do and they have to CONNECT with you. If you don’t connect then the job will be a lot harder for both of you. Let your personality shine through, be enthusiastic and professional – the perfect balance.

#2 Have a rough agenda to follow. Thiswill makre you feel super confident and it will also give some structire to the meeting. Remember, they are looking at you for your expertise so you have to give them a sense of your organisation and the way you work. Have a list of things you want to ask – the things that are going to help you do some focussed follow up. The couple will look to you to lead the meeting so you have to be prepared to do so.

#3 Be clear about what happens next. Have something ready to say when they ask “So, what happens next”. Set out the next steps really clearly so that they feel confident in choosing you. Again, they are looking at you for your organisation so you need to make sure that the relationship sets off right.

#4 Don’t jump straight in – try and warm them up first. Perhaps ask them how they met, what is their love story. Show an interest in them and their unique story. You may also be able to use this to suggest ideas that are unique to them.

#5 Be the mediator! It is worth remembering that this may be the first time that they are sitting down and talking about the wedding TOGETHER…there may be disagreements or “I didn’t know you wanted that!” so be aware and be gentle !

#6 Don’t be afraid to talk £. This will be a key consideration for them and knowing what they get. Don’t worry if you do not have a defined price list, BUT do have something ready to say, confidently, when they ask the £ question. I would suggest that you say you will go away and work up a package based on your discussion as you bespoke all of your packages to the needs of your individual brides and grooms. Just make sure you ask the questions that enable you to do a quote.

#7 Don’t undersell yourself! Remember, this is your business not your hobby. If they are not willing to pay them they are not right for you. The resistance with paying is normally about not knowing WHAT they are getting – once you nail this you will be cool.

#8 Be excited and be keen but don’t make it look like you are relying on this job. It is easy to get super excited and start discounting, offering more etc to try and win the work but, weirdly, as humans, if there is exclusivity you will be more desirable.

#9 Go with some ideas but don’t tell them everything otherwise they won’t need another meeting with you…dangle the carrot – add value but don’t offer the solution.

#10 Take some previous samples of work you have done. An iPad with pics is a great way of showcasing work in a professional way. Be proud and loud about what you have done.

My final tips…be confident and enjoy it! Don’t stress yourself, relax, enjoy and just be YOU. That connection is what is going to nail it
Oh, final word of advice…and you WILL feel silly doing this, but practice what you are going to say in front of the mirror, when you are driving, when you are in the shower – anywhere you can talk out loud really. I do this for each and every class or presentation I give and it makes you feel sooooo much more confident on the day.

GOOD LUCK!

How do you get to know your couples and their vision?

How do you “GET” your couples so you can deliver their vision?

18 FEBRUARY 2016 // PEP TALK

For you to create the perfect wedding for your couples, whatever service or product you provide, you really need to “GET” them. To understand their vision.  What DOES their perfect wedding look like? What DO they want to feel? How canYOU help them? Getting to know your couples and see their vision can be really hard do but I wanted to share some top tips with you today.

1) Ask them what they imagine their perfect day to be.

You may find that each side of the couple has a different response…it can be interesting…but it really helps you get to grips with what they vision for their big day. You may be the first person to actually ask them! It may even be the first time they talk about it!

2) Ask the couple what is most important to them.

The response will give you a feel for their priorities, and therefore where you services/products fit into that. This helps you because it enables you to draw on the emotion, to make them feel that you totally “get” what they are trying to achieve…this will help them to commit to buy from you. It may be that having the most “talked about wedding of the century!” is their vision. Or it may just be that they “want to bring friends and family together for one big, fun party”.

3) Help them paint a picture.

Once you know what it important to your couple, you can start to paint a picture of how you products/services can help them achieve that vision. You will start to be seen as a “must have” for the wedding, not just a “nice to have!”. And if it works with one couple, it will work with others…

4) Follow up on that vision.

Make sure that you take notes of what you talk about when you speak with your couples. This is marketing gold for you – not just for this couple but for lots of other couples to. These notes could drive your social media posts, your newsletter articles, your blogs for months to come!

5) Check in.

As you work through the order, make sure that their vision is still the same and that things have not changed. Yes, this will only be relevant to *some* wedding services BUT it is important to check back in and make sure you are still on track…this will make you an invaluable wedding supplier to them. And what happens then? THEY REFER YOU! Yay!

Really getting to understand your couples also helps you to shape your business around them and helps you define your ideal bride even further. Want to know more about your ideal bride? Listen to the audio here >>>

You need to Stand Out

Make an impact by standing out.

31 JANUARY 2016 // BRIDE EXPERIENCE

I know people struggle with standing out from the crowd…”Why am I different to that other wedding stationer…why would a bride and groom use little old me?!”

The answer? BE YOU!

Being YOU is key to attracting your ideal bride and groom.
You have to have to have to have to let your personality show in your marketing and really make an impact for your brides to remember you. For them to STOP and look at you. For them to even NOTICE you.
Now, thhe wedding industry IS a competitive market, there is no getting around that. BUT there are millions of couples getting married every year and for you to stand out from the crowd and make impact.
How?

There are lots of ways of infusing your personality into what you do, but, a good place to start is figuring out exactly what you do and how you add your “youness” into your product or service.

Think beyond the product or service that you offer. Think of the feelings you give your brides and grooms, the benefits that you bring them. What is it really like to have you as one of their wedding suppliers.  Get into the mind of your ideal bride and really get think about it from their shoes.

Figuring out “what you do” is something I talk with my clients about all the time and it is always one of those “ah ha” moments!
With love and success

5 Wedding Fayre top tips

5 Ways to Stand Out at your next Wedding Fayre.

16 JANUARY 2016 // BIZ SH*T & YOUR PRODUCTS

Fed up of blending into the background at the wedding fayres you go to? Wondering what you can do to be different?

When you are surrounded by other suppliers, it is easy to think that your stand just doesn’t “do it!”. Everyone else seems to have lots of brides chatting to them, but why do they just look at your stand and move on?

Try one or two of these ideas:

1) GO UP!

When a room is packed full of suppliers you need to do something to get a bride to look at your stand from the other side of the room. Use your space most effectively and go upwards! You could DIY a stunning backdrop (check out my Pinterest Wedding Fayre Inspiration Board for some great ideas: https://uk.pinterest.com/wedbizbootcamp/wedding-fayre-display-ideas/. Please note: Be careful not to block out other suppliers, it is not good etiquette! If you have a vertical stand then tell the organiser and ask for a table by the wall.

2) STAND IN FRONT OR TO SIDE OF YOUR STAND

Be more open for conversation with your couples and stand in front or to the side of your stand. This removes the “supplier” “customer” barrier and makes you more open to have a natter. You can also pick up and show your goodies easier, some brides are nervous about messing up your display!

3) RUN A COMPETITION

Getting the brides email address is a must have at any fayre you go to (read the blog here) but you do have to offer something in return. A competition is a great idea – think about what you could offer that would be oh so tempting! It could be that you choose a winner at the end of each season so you are not having to give a prize away after each and every fayre that you do.

4) MAKE IT OBVIOUS

Make sure that it is super clear what you actually do. I know this sounds like a silly one BUT if you are, let’s say a wedding stationer but you have flowers on your stand to make it pretty, a bride may be confused about whether you are a stationer, a florist, a venue stylist…be super duper clear!

5) SMILE!

Obvious right? I cannot tell you how many wedding fayres I have been to and the supplier has been sitting down behind their stand, arms crossed looking so blumin’ miserable…that is NOT going to give your brides a warm fuzzy feeling! So, however naff or fed up you feel, don’t let it show!

SO go on, enjoy that wedding fayre and GO GET LOTS OF EMAIL ADDRESSES so you can follow up and fill your order book!
