Drive Sales in your Wedding Business with a Christmas Voucher

Drive Sales in your wedding business with a Christmas Voucher

29 NOVEMBER 2017 // BIZ SH*T

CAN YOU CREATE A CHRISTMAS VOUCHER?DRIVE SOME SALES + GET SOME SECURED BOOKINGS

Let’s imagine your perfect bride is sitting there, on the verge of buying or booking from you and they really want to, but they just can’t find that last bit of money right now. Remember, Christmas can be an expensive time of the year (in case you missed that!!). Let’s imagine people keep saying “What do you want for Christmas?”. Imagine if they said “I really want that [insert your wedding awesome] from [insert your beautiful business]!!! That is all I want!!! You know, they do offer gift vouchers, special Christmas ones….I would love one of those!”.

It would take you no time at all to bash one together on Canva.com (check out the how to here) and print it out [on some nice card stock or photo paper]. You could email your list and tell them that you are doing vouchers for this month only! You can promote the pants off it on social media [giving you something to actually post about on your social media channels]. You could do an Instagram Story on it [If you want to know how to do Instagram Stories, I talk about that in the Instagram bundle inside of The Wedding Biz Club so you could learn today click here]. You could do a FB Live on it [See blog post about how here!].

Let’s imagine another situation…

A Groom is sitting there wondering what the heck he can buy his bride this year for Christmas that is going to mean something to here (rather than yet another random purchase that is made after walking round the shops for hours on end…). He has heard her yabbering on about this [insert your wedding awesome here] for days, weeks, month. He discovered that said supplier does Christmas Vouchers…awooooga! Present sorted!

~ Your Action ~

Brainstorm some ideas of how you can drive some sales through December with the introduction of a Christmas Voucher.

One Simple Way to get Brides to your Website

1 Simple Way to Get Brides to your Website

27 JUNE 2017 // YOUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

All of this marketing stuff you are doing in your business is with one aim in mind. Getting brides onto your website so they can buy from you. Today I want to share a quick tip with you that will get brides moving easier to your website.

But before we get started you need to know what your website traffic actually is, in other words, how many visitors do you get to your website every day.

Plugins to monitor your website traffic

There are two plugins I would recommend for this, Google Analytics and Count Per Day. Get one of these set up on your website so that you can start to track your website stats. If you already have one of these, or a similar one, set up on your site then jump in today and have a look at your stats. How many visitors do you get to your website. Now we have a base number, we can see if this little trick is working for you.  Like with anything, you need to give a new thing enough room to see if it works. Don’t give up so easily!

Now, here is the super simple way you can get brides to your website

At the end of your newsletter, underneath your signoff, include a list of your recent blogs, or latest products/package updates or anything that entices the reader to click through.

Let me give you an example. At the end of my newsletter, I now include a list of the last 5 or so blog posts, just as really simple click through links. Doing this has had a massive impact on the amount of traffic to my website which in turn has helped my ideal client (you) get to know me more, get to trust me, get to like me (*blushes*) and it helps create a stronger, deeper relationship. Here is what I mean – here is my newsletter and you can see the links at the bottom here highlighted in pink >>>

This super simple addition to your newsletter will really help to drive the traffic to your site.

Just to say, that if you are drawing brides into your website through your blog post, you want to make sure it is easy for them to click through to find out more and you can read more about that here >>>.

If you are not sending regular newsletters why not just do a round-up post at the end of each week or every couple of weeks saying “Read the latest blog posts here [insert the links]”.

We need to get traffic to your website. We need to close the gap between social media likers and actual moochers – ie brides who are looking around, window shopping, creating their “dream wedding supplier!” list. To do this we need to make it clear and obvious.

So make the action clear – tell your brides what to do next. Close the gap and make the journey as simple as possible for them.

Do this consistently and then track back to your website stats and see the impact it has had. Just make sure you are realistic – if you only send one newsletter a month then you will need to give it a few months to see a change. If you send a newsletter once a week then you will see a bigger impact quicker.

There are many bride routes into your wedding business

A bride may enter your business many ways.

20 JUNE 2017 // YOUR BRAND

Where are you doing “stuff” online? Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, Newsletters, Blogs, your website…think about all the places that you are putting you and your business out there.

There are quite possibly a lot of different places. So you never know which route your bride is coming into your business.

  • She may have come across you on Facebook and got lost in the pictures on your newsfeed.
  • She may have seen a pin on Pinterest and clicked through to your blog page.
  • She may have landed on your website from a google search.
  • Or perhaps she has visited your website after a wedding fair.

We kind of assume that everyone is coming through the front door  – your website home page. BUT they are not necessarily. The first page they may land on may be your blog, or a product page, or your gallery.

So we need to make sure that…

01. There is a consistent feel across all the places that you are online

02. It is easy for your couples to navigate around your site, regardless of where they have entered it

03. Oh and we also need to make sure that everything is helping to tell the story you want it to (more on that here)

So let’s look at 01 First.

The look and feel of your business, your brand, is really key in attracting the right brides to you. If you are looking for a modern, trendy bride then having a traditional brand is not going to draw their eye. So you need to make sure that firstly you have a brand that appeals to your ideal bride and secondly that that look and feel is consistent throughout your business. Let’s say they have landed on your home page which is all new and spangly but they go to your gallery and the images tell a different story. We want consistency because this build desire and it builds trust.

This consistency needs to be throughout all of the places that you are online. We don’t want a bride seeing your latest stuff over on Instagram or Facebook and then coming over to your website to a different look and feel – we need this to flow because this builds that trust.

If you feel like you need help with your brand then why not take a look at my one week to done brand package here > http://www.weddingbizcoach.com/oneweekbranding/

Let’s look at 02. navigation.

On your home page you may have some really clear buttons to help point your bride through to the various pages on your site.  For example , on mine I have

But what happens when a bride lands on a page that isn’t your home page – do you have somewhere else for them to go to help draw them closer into your business? Let’s say they have read a blog, they may want more but unless it is clear, they are likely to hit “x”.  So it is important to keep these signposts throughout your website so that they know where to go next. If a bride has got to the end of your blog then she is likely to want to know more about you and what you can help them with so make sure there is a link to something that links and that they can click on to find out more. Perhaps in a blog post you have talked about a specific style of wedding or a particular product – make sure you link to that product to encourage the click through.

I would recommend having three key “buttons” on your website that you can use at the bottom of each page so that you can keep encouraging the journey you want your brides to go on.

Join me on Friday at 11am over on my Facebook page where I will be talking about this more and will show you how to create the buttons I talk about above, whatever website platform you use.

Let’s look at 03. the story you are telling

As your business grows and as you add new products or services to your biz it is easy for your website to get a little confuzzled. Let’s say you have added some new pages to your website that are a different look and feel of the rest of your website (see point #1 above) it is not going to flow as easily for your couples. Let’s say they have landed on your home page which is all sparkly and lovely and then they go onto your portfolio page, or your product page and the look and feel is a bit different. Perhaps it was an old page on your site. Perhaps it was a page that you just haven’t given much attention to lately or even since your website was first put together. Perhaps your style has changed now.

This is so easily done because I often find that people work really hard on their website when they first set it up and then they don’t give it much attention after that. We are all guilty of it! There are pages on my website that I need to update (so don’t feel bad! I am not preaching here I am saying we are all the same!).

What is important though is that there is some flow between the pages on your website, that they are telling the story you want. It may be better not to have a page on your website at all rather than have one that is old and different to the rest of your site.

Remember, we are trying to build trust with your brides and we want them to get “the feeling” that you have your shit together! That you know what you are doing! Even if below the surface you are paddling frantically…from the outside you want to look sorted, proper, trusting.

ACTION TIME

01.

Write down all the places that you put stuff out online and spend just 10 minutes flicking between them to see if there is a consistent look and feel across them all. Don’t panic if there isn’t but recognising that there is some work to be done is the first step to making this work. For example, I know at the moment that my Pinterest is really not on brand for me but instead of letting it stress me out, I have opened the diary up and planned when I am going to work on my Pinterest strategy. You see we are all evolving and growing and developing and there are always things that we want to improve. The first step is knowing what needs to change and then the second step is making time to do it.

02.

Add some clear navigation buttons throughout your website so whichever page your bride lands on they know where to go next *come and join me for some live training on this on Friday at 11am over on https://www.facebook.com/weddingbizcoach

03.

Just click through to your website and see if it is telling the story you want it to. Is it showcasing products and services that support the style of bride you are trying to attract into your business? If there are some pages that are out of whack then list them down and take one each week to work on. Soon you will have all the pages sorted!

Just know that your website is never done. You will always want to change, to develop, to improve it and that is a good thing. We are all doing this all of the time.

Do you waste your inspiration?

How to not forget your inspiration

30 MAY 2017 // BIZ SH*T

I never thought I would be one of those people who walk along with their head down staring at their phone. But when I get an idea I HAVE to write it down otherwise it is gone forever. So many times have I had a wonderful idea and thought “Oh that’s good, I won’t forget that!” and then what happens. Yep, it is gone. Forever. And I get annoyed with myself.

If you are anything like me, you will have these little pockets of inspiration all the time, walking to the shops, in the shower, just as you are about to slip into the land of nod (annoying as that is!).

BUT

Do you waste it?

I do.

I am a big believer in following your intuition and also letting ideas sit with you for a while before you put them into practice, just so you can make sure they are the right ideas for you. But sometimes, these wonderful ideas get lost in the noise of the world, in the noise of your mind, in the noise of your notebook.

Let’s take blogging for example.

Blogging is basically writing about things that your soul customer (in your case, your bride, in my case – you!) cares about. Things they are interested in. Things that will help them, or inspire them, or make them feel good. I have got pages and pages of notes about what I could write about. I have a full trello board or ideas for blogs. But what do I do every Tuesday? I sit and think “Hmmm…what can I write about today.” When I have the answers already there, hidden away in notebooks and trello boards.

I was working with one of my clients the other week on creating their content calendar so that they could have a good stash of content ready to write about when they came to build their bride audience with blogging. I asked her how she was getting on the other week and the instant response was “I don’t know what to write about”. When I reminded her that we have a full content calendar laid out she was like “Duh – of course! Right, I will get on with it!”.

But it is natural. We can do the work, do all the plans and all the “stuff” that helps us to grow but it is not just enough doing the leg work. We have to look at it every day. We have to remind ourselves what we are doing and why. We have to look at the inspirations we have an see how they can come forward in our business.

Perhaps you had an idea for a new design, a new package or a new product a while ago. It may not have been the right time to do anything with it, but it may be now.

Let’s say you want to refresh something you are doing, change things up a little, adding a new fizz into your wedding biz. I bet you have the ideas somewhere stashed away for you to take action now.

The lesson

So the lesson from this post really is to say that keep having the ideas, the sparks on inspiration but don’t forget about them. Take some time every few months to review them. To see whether they may now be good to move forward on.

As we come to the mid-point of the year, it is likely that you are going to be spending some time on planning for the next six months. Going through your notebooks, your scribbles, your phone notepad and wherever else your scribble ideas down could be a great place to start to respark that inspiration.

You don’t need new ideas.

You probably have some squirreled away that are just wonderful.

Now is about taking action on the ones that feel right for you.

YOUR ACTION

01. Gather together your notebooks and flip through the pages.

02. Grab a set of post it notes and tag any pages that jump out to you as possible ideas for now.

03. Write each idea on a post it note and lay them out.

04. Now take each idea and ask yourself whether it feels like this project fits in with you now and where you are in the business.

These ideas could be small ideas, things such as blogs or topics for social media. Or they could be bigger projects such as website revamp, new products/designs.

Take some time out to plot your focus and the projects that are going to move you forward right now.

Don’t waste the inspiration you have. You have done the thinking work, now it is about the action.

#1 Way to Create Desire

Show you are Busy.

16 MAY 2017 // GROWING YOUR BIZ

A quick way to create desire

SHOW YOU ARE BUSY

One of the barriers that can stop a bride from buying is knowing what you are up to and whether you are legit. You may have a snazzy website and you may have beautiful products or services but if a bride cannot see that you are busy she may be less inclined to book, purely because being in demand makes you more desirable.

We are all very suspicious as buyers, but brides are especially suspicious – they are scared to death of being let down or being ripped off. They are fed horror stories in Facebook Groups, by well-meaning friends down the pub. They want to know you are real and that you are actually working (pst if you are not full to the brim with bookings at the moment, read on, I have you covered).

Have you ever wanted to do something, perhaps it is to do with a special offer or something, when the deadline is coming to an end you are more likely to hit BUY NOW because you don’t want to miss out?

Well, your brides are kind of the same. If they are on the fence as to whether to buy from you or not, knowing that you only have a few booking slots left will help them make up their mind. Showing them behind the scenes will also build the know, like and trust factor with your brides. They will see what you are working on and they will get to know you more. This helps them to decide that you are the one for them.

“But I am too busy to tell people how busy I am”

I get it, I really do. When we are busy, things like blog posts, social media, newsletters drop off the to do list. But, this can be dangerous for your biz because you may be busy now, but if you don’t get those future bookings booked in then you will be quiet in 12/24/36 month’s time (not to scare you here but just so you can see the cycle and how it works). So to get those future bookings you need to keep the profile up and when you are busy you can use that as your content.

What do I mean?

Here are 7 ideas for you

01. Let’s say you are getting ready for a wedding. You could take a snap of the behind the scenes and share that on your chosen social media channels.

02. You could jump on Facebook and do a quick Facebook live, just showing them where you are and what you are up to.

03. You could jump on Instagram and so an Instagram Story again, sharing what you are doing and showing them behind the scenes.

Of course, it goes without saying here, make sure you do not give away lots of details or any personal details of the couples you are working with – they probably don’t want their invitation plastered around social media before their guests have even had them in the post!

Think about how you can use what you are doing to share your busy-ness!

04. Let’s say you are packing up an order, you could take a picture of the box and post that on social media.

05. Perhaps you are editing photographs – take a picture of your desk and share what you are doing.

06. Perhaps you are planning a brides order over a cuppa – take a picture of the cuppa and your notebook!

07. Perhaps you are just brainstorming some ideas or getting ready for a bride consultation – share it!

Literally, take the things that you are doing in your day to tell your story. This really helps to create desire because your brides will then think “Oh, she is busy – we must book her soon if we want to secure her!”.  Side note: Prompt this action!

Say things like: “Preparing for a busy week ahead, I only have one bride consultation spot left – book yours here …”

“But I have no live orders at the moment, how can I show my busy-ness?”

OK, so perhaps you don’t have actual bookings you can share but you will be doing things in your every day that are working on your business right? (If not, then you have a problem and you will never get those bookings by the way #justsaying). Take these things you are doing and share them.

01. Perhaps you are planning out your week – share a pic of your diary or make a text comment about what you are up to

02. Perhaps you are visiting a shop for suppliers – share a pic of your journey or do a quick live stream

03. You may be brainstorming new product/service ideas

04. You could work up a sample product and share that – taking them through the process, drawing on the individual parts

05. You could mention past brides you have worked with and their order

Share anything that will raise the profile and will get your brides thinking you are busy. This is not being deceptive by the way, it is just creating desire and this desire will help them book you.

YOUR ACTIONs

01.

Start to look at the actions you are doing in your every day and ask yourself

“Could I share this to create desire?”

“Does this action support the story I want to tell my brides?”

“Would posting this raise my profile?”

02.

Make it clear how they can book you, whether it is for a consultation or whether it is for an order – lead them into the decision.

Go off and create that desire, share your story and brides will be falling over themselves to book you.

6 Reasons Why Blogging will Book You Brides

6 Reasons Why Blogging will Book You Brides

18 APRIL 2017 // CONTENT

When I start working with my wonderful wedding biz clients one of the first questions I ask is “Do you blog regularly?” (Well actually I take a sneaky look at their website before the call of course but I like to ask the question to see what the reaction is). This is often answered with three responses

01. Ummm no…what is a blog?

02. Yes and I blumin love it!

03. I kinda do but don’t think I am doing it right.

Whichever answer you are, it is OK, you have taken the first step to reading this blog to find out why it is so great for your wedding biz so you have taken the first step – whoop! I know that the word blogging can make you shudder…it feels so grand! But blogging is basically writing. Writing an article, a newsletters, a journal entry, a post – it is just writing.

Blogging can be transformationational to your business.

Really.

Brides read blogs. Blogs are simply wonderful at driving traffic (your brides) to your website.  There are lots of elements of blogging that need to be considered like What to post, where to post, how to make the  most of the post, but once you have that sussed, it is really super duper easy – trust me. You just need to get into the blogging flow.

There are so many brides reading blogs, it is a shame to miss out on this chance! Using apps such as Bloglovin, Google Plus, Pinterest and all sorts of others, you can get great exposure from blogs if they are done right.

Six Reasons why blogging is worth your while if you are a wedding business:

01. Blogging gives you a reason to post on social media. One of the biggest grumbles I hear from people when I say “You need to post on social media consistently” is “OK, Emma, that is fine BUT WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO POST?”. From ONE blog post you could have a week’s worth of social media posts. Seriously.

02. Blogging drives traffic to your website (Pst traffic = your brides). One of the trickiest things to growing your wedding biz can be to move brides from your social media to your website (where they can then have a mooch around and see what you have to offer) but blogs are a great way of directing traffic to your website. They close that gap. They provide the step. Once your bride has landed on your website you have a better chance of converting them to a bride (because you can capture their email by offering a freebie or if that fails you can use a Facebook pixel to re-target them – those are topics for another day!).

03. Blogging demonstrates your expertise. It can feel a little (OK very) icky shouting all the time saying “I know what I am doing! OVER HERE! HELLLOOOOOO BRIDES! I am FAB at what I do! You NEED to have me at your wedding!!”. We find it very difficult to blow our own trumpets, especially as women, we can easily slide behind praise and blush slightly. But you know what, you have SO much knowledge and expertise about what you do. If you have been in the industry for a long time then you have all that expertise and you know your stuff! If you have just started out then you have the passion and the desire that you can share in a big way. Blogging helps you demonstrate your expertise because when you write you will talk about things that you know and this will in turn showcase your expertise without being really obvious. And brides will connect with you more with this expertise.

04. Blogging builds trust. We are all suspicious as purchasers but Brides can be super suspicious because of horror stories that happen in the wedding industry, companies going bump, letting brides down, not delivering or just being scammed. They are not just buying something for a party – they are buying a piece of the perfect – most amazing day of their life puzzle so they are understandably a little more cautious. If you blog regularly then you will be seen as “proper” and brides will have an easier time trusting you because they will see that you are active and you get the industry. This will help you convert more brides to booked brides.

05. Blogging helps you get found easier. This is for a number of reasons but the main one is that Google loves websites that have new content added to them regularly. Because then they know you are an active website and therefore they will prioritise you in the search engines. That’s gotta be worth it alone right! ALSO the more interesting blogs you have on your site the longer your brides will stay on your site and Google likes that to because it means you can be trusted because you are clearly delivering what you say you are going to. If you cross link your blogs then they are going to stay around for even longer.

06. Blogging moves your brides closer to your products or services. If you are clever with your blogging you can link your blogs through to products or services you offer in a genuine way and this means that your brides will find what you have to offer easier and therefore are more likely to read more about what you have to offer and become a booked bride.

I could go on with the reasons why blogging is brilliant for your wedding business but I will stop there.

To finish up this blog post here are a few other hints and tips to good blogging. If you would like more, keep an eye out on my You Tube Channel because I am going to be starting a blogging mini series over there to help you get started. CLICK HERE

The key to good blogging?

  • Writing content that your brides want to read, that demonstrates your expertise, that feds to your website, that draws brides closer to you.
  • You need to use good imagery, good headlines and they need to be written well.
  • They also need to be promoted well – there is no point writing a blog, popping it on your website and hoping that brides will find it…you need to promote it!

ACTION

So if you are regularly blogging them see how you can improve what you are doing OR how you can make the most out of what you are doing. If you are not currently blogging then seriously consider whether it could be good for you (pst – the answer is it will be!) and start to take steps to build it into your future plans.

When Does your Bride Buy?

When Does Your Bride Buy?

4 APRIL 2017 // YOUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES

o you know where you sit in the decisions of your brides? I like the think that in an “average” engagement (if there is one!) that there are 4 steps of wedding planning

01. Book the things that need to be booked

02. Sort the next important things

03. Finalise the stuff that hasn’t been done yet

04. Got some budget left – what can we spend it on!

So that is a very simplistic way of looking at it but where do you sit?

Understanding this can really help you to position your messaging in the right way.  It may well be that you straddle* two of these categories. Let’s say, for example you are a venue stylist. You may be a key focus for the couple when they are sorting their reception detail but what if they had some budget left OR what if the thing they thought they were going to do DIY hasn’t worked or they have run out of time? Then you would fall into 2 and 4.

If you are a supplier that has to be booked early on, here we are thinking about venues, celebrant, photographer etc then you need to grab a bride early on in their planning process. This means that you need to put things out there that are going to answer their early questions, the things they are likely to be searching for when they are researching, this is how you will pop up in their mind.

If you are a supplier that offer something that can be booked pretty last minute (as in a couple of months/weeks before not days!) then think about what marketing you can do to appeal to the last minute bookings. For example, let’s say you create handcrafted pieces or accessories for the wedding that a bride may have “had a go at” doing. You could do a “DIY Bouquet not quite gone to plan…here are some we have which you can buy and have in your hands within the week!”.

ACTION

Have a think about the services you offer in your biz and see where they sit in the timeline of your brides and start to think about how you can use this information to help support the money you are bringing into your business.

Join me on Friday at 1pm for a FB Live over on my biz page where I am going to talk about this live, come on over and ask me any questions you have.

*If you giggled at this we need to talk – we would get on well.

The Instagram 9 (and how to have a curated feed)

The Instagram 9.

30 MARCH 2017 // SOCIAL MEDIA

I bloody love Instagram. It really appeals to the visual part of me, the creative part. I love seeing the images that people create, the story they are telling through their feed. I love seeing how people evolve their Instagram feed over time and also the subtle changes that happen throughout the seasons. I love the opportunity for connection with Instagrammers too, and the fact that the platform still feels quite genuine and not “too” staged. I say “too” here because yes, things are still styled (in most cases) but the commentary that goes along with Instagram is, I feel, more genuine. If you ignore the spammers of course!

Earlier this week I met with two of my business buddies and whilst enjoying teacakes and coffee we started talking about Instagram and how sometimes it can feel a little too perfect. A little too styled. A little too planned. I am going to cover that in a moment, but before I do I think it is important to say that I think it is easy to get caught into the same trap as we have with some other social media. Just doing it because we “have to”. Scheduling so far in advance that we have forgotten what is being posted and I feel that this really disconnects us from the message we are putting out into the world. I am all for being efficient and using tech to help make things easier, but being genuine and authentic is also super important to me.

I used to use Meet Edgar for my social media scheduling which I loved from one aspect – it was efficient, it was quick and my social media feeds were always full – but because I was scheduling soooo far in advance, I felt like I really disconnected with the message I was putting out there and this just didn’t sit well with me.

Now, I still do pre-schedule my posts in Facebook but I only do it a few days/a week in advance so that I can stay connected with what I am actually saying!

It is that connection that I love so much about Instagram. There are only a few apps where you can pre-schedule in Instagram so the feed has a far more organic feel to it, does that make sense?

A curated feed

I think it is really important to focus on having a curated feed and by that I mean a feed that works together. It is like when you go to an art gallery, you would expect to see similar styles of paintings together, they would just work together. This doesn’t necessarily mean they need to be of the same thing, but they need to have the same look and feel, there needs to be some consistency.

So how can you create a curated feed?

First off we want to make sure that as soon as a bride sees your Instagram feed so knows what it is you do. As lovely as it is to see pictures of your cat, or of the blueberry pancakes you have made out of the latest cook book your bought, unless your business focuses on cats or food then consider whether it is telling the story you want it to. If you are a wedding stationer and your cat is sitting in your ribbons, even though it may be a cute photo, think about whether your brides would want cat haired ribbons on their invitations! Everything you put out there is telling a story so just ask yourself before you post it “Is this putting out the message I want it to.”  Remember your brides are looking at your Instagram feed to see wedding stuff, stuff they are going to love. If your soul bride is really on trend then fill your feed with the latest trends, with the latest pantone colours, with the things that will attract her eye in a busy landscape.

If you are a cake maker we want 80% of your feed to be cakes.

If you are a florist we want 80% of your feed to be flowers.

If you are a wedding stationer we want 80% of your feed to be invitations.

The other 20% We want that to be things that tell the story of you and your business. We want to see the tools you use, pictures of you, pictures of your workspace, pictures of things that build your story.

This is where the Instagram 9 comes into play. When a bride finds you on Instagram she will get a sense as to whether you are right for her from the first 9 images you have on your Instagram Feed.

Here is mine as of today.

The beauty of the Instagram 9 is that if you look at your feed now and think “Oh crikey this needs work” you can see a different in just 9 days if you post everyday. How great is that! If you go to my Instagram page HERE and scroll down you will see how random and uncurated my feed was when I first started.  By focusing and staying consistent you can see the change that has been made. I am still learning Instagram and still growing and focusing on how I can use it as a platform so I am not saying any of this from an expert status, but more from a this is my learning so far. We are all learning you know 🙂

This is how my feed has changed over the past few months:

How can you keep your Instagram feed consistent?

I get that it can be difficult to see how you can tie your Instagram feed together, this was also something we chatted about over our teacakes, and you know what we decided the best way was? To incorporate a consistent colour. You will likely have a colour that you use in your biz, perhaps it is one in your logo, one that you use through your website.

Keep an eye out in your home for things that are that colour, or when you are out and about. Perhaps it is some ribbon, some fabric, a vase, a pen, a notebook, a coaster, a pair of shoes – literally anything! Incorporate a colour into your feed that links to your brand – that is the easiest way of getting consistency when you are posting different types of images.

Planning your feed

So even though I feel it is important to be organic and genuine with your feed, I do strongly believe that it is important to have a little plan for 3 reasons.

#1 We like a plan – it makes us feel organised!

#2 If you plan you are more likely to stay consistent with what you are doing

#3 You get that curated feel to your feed and this will attract your brides

You can still move things around and play with it if you want to – if, for example, you see something that you have to post that day, do it and just reshuffle your feed ( I will give you some tools in a sec!)

ACTION:

So think about your Instagram 9. Draw a grid of 3 x 4 and roughly set out what you are going to do for each section and think about the way it all looks together. Like I say, you want a bride to land on your feed & know what you do instantly

Tools I use

As ever, there are a list of tools that make everything easier and here are the ones I use for Instagram.

  • I take my photos on my iPhone, just using the photo function, I never take the picture directly in Instagram because the quality never seems as good.
  • I then edit the photo in an app called Afterlight (read about this here)
  • I use an app called Mosaico to plan out my feed so that I can see how it all looks together before I actually post it on Instagram – this is the way you achieve your curated feed. There are other apps that do this but this has been my favourite so far
  • I then add the edited photo to the Dropbox app on my iPhone and sync with my Dropbox so I have it on my desktop (if you don’t use Dropbox you could just email the photo to yourself)
  • I use an application called Grum which is on desktop and this allows me to post directly to Instagram from my desktop so I can attach the image (or a meme if I have done that on my desktop) and then type in my comments, add emojis where appropriate and my hashtags and post OR schedule (Grum allows you to actually schedule on Instagram)
  • If you post directly on Instagram from your phone you can skip the two steps above and just carry on with the way you do it now! A top tip I have though is to make sure you save your hashtags in a note on your phone so you can just copy and paste them every time (there is also a snazzy text shortcut thing you can do but I will cover that in another post!). Another top tip, if you don’t like typing on your phone, type up your comment on your email and send it to yourself and just copy and paste it across. This is also great for batching.
  • I then interact with comments on my instagram feed either from my phone or from Instagram on my desktop

Batching

One final note to help you with keeping it up, because I know that life takes over and it is all well and good me saying “Post everyday on Instagram but don’t overschedule and become disconnected”. You still need to think ahead and this is where batching comes to life! I blumin love batching. Batching is simply grouping tasks together that make sense to do together. So, for example, if you are taking pictures for your Instagram feed, it makes sense to take a batch of them together, whilst you are “in the mood”, whilst you have the lighting right, the camera out (or your phone) and all your bits and pieces together. Batching your photos also helps to create that consistent feel.

If you are posting memes too, like I do, I batch create them all in one go to so that I have then there ready to use.

The best way to batch? Plan time in your diary and get it done! I batch most things in my business and it works wonderfully.

Having a genuine Instagram feed that shares your story and your message to appeal to the brides you want to draw into your business will help you connect.

How your perfectionism could be stopping brides from booking you

How Your Perfectionism Could be Stopping Brides from Booking You.

17 FEBRUARY 2017 // YOUR PRODUCTS AND SERVICES // YOUR BRIDES

This is a hard topic for me because it kind of feels like I am talking to myself. Because everything I am about to say I am going to do wincing with pain because this is a hard lesson I had to learn in my own business (and I still have to remind myself every now and then!).

And it is that phrase “Sometimes good is good enough” Click To Tweet

I give 110% to everything I do, in biz and in my life, and sometimes that can hold me back. It can stop me from moving forward. The reason? Because I don’t put things out there that should be out there until they are perfect. But you know what, things will never ever ever be perfect because one person’s idea of perfect is different to someone else’s.

I bet you a coffee (a virtual one mind!) that you are sitting on something in your business. You are holding back on something because it is “not quite there”. It is not perfect. It is good, but not perfect. It may be a new product or service offering, it may be a new design, it may be a thing you have been thinking about for ages but have not yet taken action.  The thing is, until you test the waters you do not really know whether something is going to be right for your brides. And if you do not put that thing out there, then brides will not know it exists and therefore they will not want it!

So, do you owe me a coffee?

This perfectionism is stopping your business from growing. Because if your products, services, awesome wedding offerings are sitting in your brain, in your notebook, or in draft pages on your website, then your brides cannot book them.

I know, I know, I know. I have been you now. Freaking out thinking “But it has to be right” and yes, it has to be good BUT sometimes good really is good enough. You can always tweak, tinker and titivate – and let’s be honest you will do that anyway, it is just part of your business evolving.

Let me give you a real life example of a website. I am currently working on the rebrand of The Wedding Biz Club as one of my February goals and I have been faffing around the new spangly website. I keep changing silly piddly things, things that in the grand scheme of things will not make a difference and this strive for perfection is slowing me down. So, I pulled my CEO pants up, gave myself a telling off and made a decision so I could move forward. I told myself that I can always change the colour of the button (see, I told you it was something silly!) later if I felt the need but now, my priority was to get the blumin thing finished so I can start to get it out there.

You may have been the same with this thing that you have been faffing with, the thing that you have been sitting on and the thing that is not out there for your brides to buy yet.

Your brides need to see stuff to desire it! So you need to tell them about it and to do this you need to get it done.

YOUR ACTION >>>

  • Look at the thing you are not promoting yet and ask yourself why. What is stopping you?
  • If it is because you don’t know the next step to take then you need to have a brainstorm and get down all the steps you need to take (if you need help with this – my Get It Done programme would be right up your street as there is a full module all about planning out a project and making it happn – read more here >>> )
  • If it is because of time, you need to set some time aside to just get it done and get it out there – open up the diary now and block out a couple of hours to just get it done.
  • Look at what can be done that will be good enough and share it – I dare you to do it today.

Until you start to get that thing out there you will not know whether brides will love it and you will not get bookings until they know it exists!

So, stop faffing, stop procrastinating and start doing. That is the only way you will grow.

Move your perfectionism level down a notch from 10 to 8 and you will feel more relaxed, Trust me. Click To Tweet

How Wedding Fairs can Grow Your Wedding Business

VALENTINES BIZ GROWTH SERIES

GET YOUR BIZ READY FOR NEWLY ENGAGED BRIDES

How Wedding Fairs can Grow Your Wedding Business.

13 FEBRUARY 2017 // YOU, YOUR PRODUCTS

Welcome to day 4 of the Valentines Wedding Biz Growth Series. So, we are looking at ways that you can get in front of those newly engaged Valentine brides. They have opened the Pinterest account, searched on social media and online shops now what do they do?

WEDDING FAIRS

After the EEEEK of engagement has subsided a little (and the bride has got used to the new rock on her finger), the next thing they do is google “local wedding fairs”.

Now, I know that wedding fairs get a bad rep. Sometimes they are brilliant, sometimes they are naff. However, if you do them right, they really can fill your order book and I say this from a place of knowing as this is how I grew my wedding stationery business when I first started. I went to wedding fairs, I got email addresses from brides and I followed up with newsletters. And I still get enquiries to this day so I know it works!

Wedding fairs are a great place to connect with newly engaged brides because that is when they go – when they are in the mooching phase (or the tarting phase as I like to call it! Read more about that here >>>).

Free Wedding Fair Guide

So what is the bride wedding fair cycle?

01. Brides go to wedding fairs when they first get engaged (and this is when they are free and easy with their email address, signing up to anything and everything to do with weddings and this is where you can get them to sign up for you so you can keep in touch with them with wonderful newsletters)

02. After they have been to wedding fais for the past 10 sundays they get bored and stop going.

03. They may go to a few more closer to the wedding date if they still have some services to book BUT if you do not capture brides at the beginning of their wedding planning journey you are less likely to convert them to booked brides

Wedding fairs only drive sales if you follow up! It’s that simple. And by follow up I don’t mean one sales email sent. I mean sending emails consistently that add value and that build the know, like and trust factor with brides and grooms.

 free-email-scripts-3

STOP for a second though ...

Before you go off and book onto tons of wedding fairs, there are lots of things to consider before investing in a wedding fair and that is a subject for another day, however here are just 5 reasons WHY wedding fairs are great for growing your wedding business

01. They are a real way for brides to see touch and experience the quality of your service

02. You can start to connect with brides by being friendly and helpful and just your most wonderful self! Brides will fall in love.

03. Brides will be happy to give you their email address if you offer them something wonderful to sign up for (this is your freebie – a little pressie you give your brides like a printable checklist)

04. You get REAL access to REAL brides which means you can see what they want! You can see how they react to what you have to offer and this can help you make really informed decisions about your products and service

05. You get to mingle and speak with other suppliers which is great for your sanity (!) and also for possible collaborations in the future.

YOUR ACTION

01. Have a Boss think about whether wedding fairs could work for you IF you follow the points in the free guide (Download here >>>)

02. Do some research for you some wedding fairs that could be perfect for attracting your ideal bride

03. Plan it in as a strategic project – a move that will help you grow, not just a “I’ll give it a go!” kinda thing. Make the most of it!

The key thing with wedding fairs is follow up! Come back on Wednesday for the next blog in the Valentines Series and you may read more about that!

In the meantime, download my free wedding fair guide which you can get instant access to. I also will send you a bonus sales ninja training video class which I know people find really valuable. Download here >>>

How Online Shops Could Boost Your Wedding Business Sales

VALENTINES BIZ GROWTH SERIES

GET YOUR BIZ READY FOR NEWLY ENGAGED BRIDES

How Online Shops Could Boost Your Wedding Business Sales

11 FEBRUARY 2017 // BIZ SH*T

Welcome to Day 3 of the Valentines Biz Growth Series! So we have covered social media over the past few days because that is the #1 place brides will start their search. Read Tip #1 Pinterest here and Tip #2 Social Media here.

Today I want to talk about ONLINE SHOPS

Brides to be will spend a lot of time searching for suppliers on 3rd party shop sites such as Not on the High Street and Etsy. Are you on these sites?

If not, then have a think about whether they would work for you. This comes with a massive word of warning – don’t just go off now and start doing online shops in a knee jerk reaction – consider carefully whether they will work for you BEFORE you invest any time in them.

If you are not a product service, you can still look at the likes of Etsy to consider whether you can offer your services through the platform. There are lots of service based suppliers on Etsy and it could be a great addition to your business generation.

Anyone can become a supplier on Etsy and when I had my wedding stationery business it is how I ended up working with brides in San Francisco, in Italy, in Switzerland and all sorts of wonderful places in the UK from my little studio in Birmingham. Amazing. Becoming a supplier on Not on The High Street takes far more commitment and there are lots of hoops to jump through so consider this carefully before investing too much time and effort – you need to know it is right for you.

Today I want to focus on Etsy because I know it works!

 The pros of using Etsy:

  • You are taking advantage of the investment they make on SEO
  • You are reaching an international audience of brides
  • You have a captive audience who are looking for what you offer
  • If your website shop is not quite ready or your website is not up to scratch, this is a great way of you selling without the effort!

The cons of using Etsy:

  • You have to consider the % they take and make sure that it doesn’t dip too much into your profits (if it does you need to increase your prices because you are not charging enough!)
  • You have to update items every few weeks so that you appear higher in the searches – you have to carefully craft the descriptions you use for your products and services to ensure they have the right key words etc (which is not a bad thing!)
  • You need really nice images to stand out

Making Etsy work for you:

There are lots of things that go into making this work for you, if you would like me to go into this in more detail, comment below and I will add it to the blog schedule, but here are my top 3

01. The way you describe your products is crucial – you need to GRAB the brides attention straight away, you have no way of seeing who has clicked to your items unless they contact you so you need to do as much as you can to make it irrestible for them!

02. You have to use beautiful images to draw the eye in a busy search result

03. You need to keep adding new projects or updating descriptions so that you appear in the searches

Using Etsy can really drive sales to your business and is a great additional income stream for you to consider if you have not yet.

Your action

Take an honest look at whether Etsy would work for your business. Set the timer and spend 30minutes taking a look around the site and see what you could do to be part of the action. If you don’t feel like it is for you, don’t waste any time on it. If you do, then plan in when you are going to start to open that shop.

Remember, those newly engaged brides will no doubt be spending time looking on there so don’t dilly dally if you feel it could work for you – make it happen!

If you need help to get a project such as this from your head into practical actions that will actually get it done, then my Get (sh)It Done programme may be just what you need.

Don’t forget to come back Monday when I will talk about another way you can get in front of those newly engaged brides as part of the Valentines Biz Growth series.

Using social media in your wedding business

VALENTINES BIZ GROWTH SERIES

GET YOUR BIZ READY FOR NEWLY ENGAGED BRIDES

Social Media for Your Wedding Business.

9 FEBRAURY 2017 // BIZ SH*T

Welcome back to Tip #2 in the Valentines Biz Growth Series! In blog post #1 (read it here) we talked about Pinterest and how that can be a great place for brides to find out about you. Today I wanted to talk about other social media channels that can be good for you in addition to Pinterest.

Social media is the ultimate free business tool and we are so very lucky to have this at our fingertips – literally!

I know that it can feel like you are “doing” social media all of the time and it can feel like you are talking to no-one but you never know who is listening!

If your social media feels like a full time job at the moment, you need to think of a different way of doing it. Personally I schedule my posts in at the start of everyday as part of my morning business housework and then have set times during the day when I jump in an interact with anyone who has commented. This works really well for me so perhaps give that a go. The other way is to spend an hour every week writing and scheduling your social media in one go so all you need to do throughout the rest of the week is engage and interact with any comments.

A little word of wisdom when it comes to social media – it is better to focus on one or two social media channels and do them really well rather that spewing over all of them and doing them half arsed

Key components of a successful social media strategy:

  • Post consistently, at least once a day (for more guidance on this click here)
  • Post good quality content (which basically means content that your brides are going to love)
  • Don’t just sell, sell, sell – show your brides you know your stuff by commenting and sharing ideas, trends, thoughts, wedding wisdom
  • BUT…don’t be afraid to sell – you need to tell your brides that they can buy from you!
  • Use a mixture of text posts, memes, photos and – shock horror – video if you are brave! (Read how to do memes (those pretty little picture things you see!) here and how to do FB Live here)
  • Engage with people who comment – not only is this great for connecting, it also helps the social media platform like you – it’s all about the algorithm *which is basically a little piece of magic that no one really knows how it works!*
  • Know your purpose – the millennial bride uses social media to plan her wedding so stay focussed on this when all feels hopeless!

In addition to Pinterest (read yesterdays blog) my two favourite social media for wedding businesses are Facebook and Instagram.

Let’s talk Facebook for a moment:

Facebook still remains a fantastic place to hang out for any wedding business.  It will not only help get you found (if you post consistently), it will help brides to get to know you more. Let’s say this newly engaged bride has asked her recently married friends for recommendations – they are likely to say “Oh yes, [insert your biz name] was brilliant! Here is her Facebook page!”. They will scroll down your feed and know immediately whether you are the right person for them. So, if Facebook is your tool of choice, then post consistently and post stuff that these newly engaged brides will love!

Let’s talk Instagram for a moment:

Instagram is also a great place to get found as brides are using it more and more as a search tool. There is one big difference with Instagram – you need to have really good pictures to use on this platform because it is a highly visual tool. Instagram is a great way of telling the story of your business, personally I love it but I am a very visual person. Hashtags are key to getting you discovered on Instagram so make sure you use them – don’t be shy! The other key thing with Instagram is again, posting consistently, once a day. Word of warning…don’t batch post in Instagram because it works like a newsfeed so people will just unfollow you if there are suddenly 10 posts from you in one go and then nothing for a week.

Which one to focus on?!

If you are confused on which social media to focus on, check out the visibility tool here where you can choose the best one for you.
Mindset__5_

Your action!

Look at which social media channel is best for you – where are these newly engaged brides going to be looking for their suppliers? Use the visibility toolkit for this:

Pre-schedule in some posts now for Valentines Day to make the most of this proposal season! Perhaps make a “Who’s getting married? ME!” meme that brides will share! (Watch this tutorial on Canva if you are not sure how to do this!)

See you on Saturday where I will talk about another way you can get visible with those newly engaged brides!

GET YOUR BIZ READY FOR NEWLY ENGAGED BRIDES

Using Pinterest to Get In Front of Newly Engaged Brides.
7 FEBRUARY 2017 // YOUR BRIDES & GROWTH

February is the month of love and this means lots of newly engaged couples!

“Will you marry me!” is the little question that will popped by lots of loved up souls on Valentine’s Day. What does this mean for you?  It means that there are lots of lovely new brides and grooms out there who are starting their wedding planning journey.

Lots of lovely new brides and grooms who are getting excited, nervous, overwhelmed and excited again, all in one go!!  This means that there are lots of new couples that NEED what you have to offer, even if they don’t know it yet!

So, what can you practically do today to help you turn up in those searches?

Over the next few blogs I am going to run a mini series about some of the things you can do to make the most of this loved up season!

Starting with one of my favourites…

Pinterest.

OK, let’s think of the process of a newly engaged bride

  1. Say yes
  2. Tell the world
  3. Open a Pinterest account!

So what is Pinterest? I know most of you will know because you have probably lost hours, days, even weekends pinning all those DIY projects and bits and bobs!  The easiest way to describe is that it is like a digital noticeboard full of ideas and inspiration. The key thing for you is that brides plan their wedding with the help of Pinterest and that means it is a fantastic was way of getting your products and services in front of brides and grooms, to inspire them and so they go over to your website!

It is not just about posting and pinning pretty pictures – it is about writing blog content that you can post, it is about adding your prodycts so that they click through and land on your website and then that is how you can wow them and engage with them.

Brides and Grooms are building their dream wedding through Pinterest. Brides spend more time on Pinterest than any other platform (we are probably all guilty of this!) and it is growing more and more.  Pinterest is a given now in planning a wedding and you are missing a trick if you are not on there.

So your action…get active on Pinterest!

If you are not on Pinterest:

Set up a business account, set up some boards, start pinning your products and services, making sure you link to your website. Keep adding to your boards. Pin complementary products/services to your boards.  Want to learn more about Pinterest? I have a free course all about Pinterest that walks you through the basics + tons more! You can get instant access here, all you need to do is pop your email address in the box below and you will get instant access

If you are currently on Pinterest here are some tips to get better:

  • Get better at pinning. As a minimum, you should be pinning 5-10 items a day and if you want to really use Pinterest as a traffic driver you should aim to pin 20-25 items a day. You can use a tool such as Board Booster for this – worth checking out and you can re-pin old content to.
  • Make sure you use descriptive words in the description that brides are searching for!
  • Make sure you link back to your website
  • Post blogs on there, service pages, products, memes, pretty things!
  • Use google analytics on your website to see what traffic you are getting
  • Use Pinterest as social media – follow others and grow your followers!
  • Promote your boards and pins through other social media channels to drive traffic

My free programme talks you through all of this if you want to know more, just pop your deets below and you will get instant access.

If you feel that Pinterest is not right for you, I would love to hear why to see if we can think of a way that it could because, honestly, brides are using it to plan their entire wedding so it is a great place for you to be.

The key is pinning your own content and leading it to your website.

Make sure you come back to the blog on Thursday for Valentines Biz Growth Tip #2.

5 Things You Can Do Today To Get A Wedding Booking

5 Things You Can Do Today To Get A Bride To Book.

30 JANUARY 2017 // BIZ SH*T

We are nearing the end of the first month of 2017 and you may be feeling pumped with the orders you have had or you may be feeling like you need to get one! Either way, here are 5 things you can do today that will get you closer to that booking.

01. Follow up with any enquiries you have had over the past 12 months. Just because a bride emailed you a few months ago (yes, even 12!) it doesn’t mean she has booked her supplier. You see, a bride has a long to do list, and she may have spent one weekend emailing all the [insert your wedding skill]-ers that she liked, she would have then have had all the replies back (including yours) but she may have been confused about who and what so didn’t do anything with it. Go through all the enquiries you have had and send them all a personal note. Nothing bad can come of it – if they have booked someone then they have booked someone, nothing is lost. Just a note here, don’t sound desperate – just reach out to them in a friendly and casual way!

0.2 Got a Bride on the Fence? (not literally). You may have been having conversations with a bride over the past few weeks/months but she still has not committed. Time to push them over the finish line. Send a note saying that you are scheduling out time to work on your bridal orders and you want to make sure they get a slot. In the same email, link to a blog post you have written that tackles the main barrier to purchase or a latest Pinterest Board that shows you understand them and their style.

0.3 Send a newsletter with a special offer. Friday was payday for many people, including your brides. They have some mullar to spend after a loooong festive payday so send a newsletter and include some kind of special offer. The booking power in newsletters in so powerful!

0.4. Get active on your social media. All those newly engaged Christmas brides are starting to look for their suppliers – they are in tart mode {read more about my theory here!}, looking at and signing up for everything so make sure you are posting regularly on your social media so that they can find you!

0.5. Ask your past brides for a testimonial and at the same time, ask them if they have any friends that you recommend you to. This may feel uncomfortable, but, at the end of the day, you don’t ask you don’t get. You could introduce a “refer a friend” incentive, let’s say you are a photographer, you could offer a free print if they refer you. Asking this when asking for a testimonial also works really well because the bride will remember how wonderful you were and will not hesitate in recommending you. (Pst – A bride will never recommend you when they are in the middle of their wedding planning because they won’t want anyone to steal you! They want to have you first!)

Remember, all you need to do is focus on getting that ONE booking – not the TEN you have set yourself as a target for this month. Just ONE that is all we are focussing on. Because if you get that ONE you will likely get others.

Now, go get that booking!

Get Brides Early.

Get brides at the tarting stage.

3 NOVEMBER 2016 // YOUR BRIDES

Brides are fickle. To start with. They don’t know what they want, who they want (supplier wise not partner wise!). They are confused by Pinterest everyday…changing the theme, the colour, the style, the…well everything!

So you need to catch them early whilst they are in this “tarting around” mode (i.e. the stage where they will sign up to everything and anything if it is free and to do with weddings!!).

Because after the excitement of PLANNING THE BIGGEST DAY OF THEIR LIVES passes, the overwhelm kicks in. And they get scared. They get more protective. They stop giving their email address. They stop going to wedding fairs. Because they are confused. They have a break from the search and then, they start making decisions – so you need to be there when they are making those decisions so they choose you.

How do you do this? 3 simple steps:

#1 You get in front of them

#2 You offer them something for nothing

#3 You send them emails every few weeks

Simple you say, Emma! Yeah, whatever!

Let me walk you through each step.

#1 You get in front of them

#1 To get in front of brides you need to be visible and you need to be visible in the places that they are going to be. Think about your ideal bride, the bride you want to build your business around, where does she hang out? Is she on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Pinterest? Take a look at the visibility tool here so you can see where is the best place for you to spend your time.

#2 You offer something for nothing

#2 Once they have found you, you need to offer something for nothing – a little freebie, a bride present. This is sometimes referred to as an opt-in or a bribe but I like to think of it as a little gift you give your brides for them giving you their email address. Now, this is not a physical thing. It is an online, downloadable thing that you email them.  Something like a wedding planner, a checklist, a how to, a fun poster, a wedding sign – something that your brides would want.

#3 You send them emails every few weeks

#3 Once you have their email address, you send them regular newsletters. THIS is what will get you the bookings. THIS is what will get a bride to click that book now button. Why? Well let’s take a walk in the shoes of your bride for a moment. When your bride gave you her email address, she was in the “tarting” stage – she was free and easy with her email address – this was likely to be when she first got engaged. Let’s say that was 12 months ago. She will have forgotten about you UNLESS you have been popping up in her inbox with good quality content that she wants to read, with a brand that is strong and attractive and with a clear and obvious link back to what you do and how you can help her have her perfect wedding.

Newsletters are the best way* of building the know, like and trust factor with your brides and a bride has to feel at least one of these before she will book you.

Yes, you do need to know how to do them and you have to use a software for this – I recommend MailChimp because it is free and it is awesome. You cannot send build emails using your email address – this is bad for a whole host of reasons – never ever do that.

Take action

So the take away from this post really is to say, you need to get brides early and then build the know, like and trust up with them and then they will enquire with you, book you, buy from you (see post here).

*The other good way is blogging but that is a topic for another day!

How to build the know like and trust factor so bride will book you

Brides need to know, like and trust you before they will move to the next step.

29 OCTOBER 2016 // YOUR BRIDES

Before a bride will book you, she needs to know you, she needs to like you and she needs to trust you. These are three key factors in a bride decision to purchase. You are the same right? Before you part with your money for anything, you want to know more about what you are buying and from who. Just remember the pressure that a bride is under when planning her wedding – she is embarking on this never done before massive life project and she wants it to be perfect. She needs to know you are the right one for her before she will take the next step.

So, let’s talk through the 3 factors and what you do to get them.

Your bride needs to know you

This one comes back down to visibility – for a bride to book you she has to know that you exist so you need to get out there (see this post).

You need to show up in their social media regularly

It needs to be clear who you are – as in YOU – who is the person behind the brand

It needs to be clear what you can help them with – don’t be afraid to talk about how you can help them – because that is what you are there to do

Post pictures of works in progress – behind the scenes – let them see your skill.

Your brides needs to like you

She needs to feel that you are the right fit for her and for her wedding. If she is after elegant and sparkles and you are all bright colours and quirky then this will not work (for either side!) so your brand and your style needs to resonate with your bride (and don’t worry, it is not going to appeal to everyone and that is a good thing)

For your brides to like you they need to get to know you a bit. So you need to let your personality and the personality of your business out of the box and into your words.

You need to land in their inbox every few weeks so they can get to know you – you do this with newsletters.

You need to add YOU into your brand and be visible as the person behind the brand because you are what makes your business different to the rest.

Your bride needs to trust you

If you are going to help them create their biggest day ever they need to know that they can trust you, that you are going to show up, not let them down and provide a crackin product or service.

You do this by sharing comments from happy brides, testimonials, social proof.

You do this by posting pictures of things you have done, completed orders.

You do this by blogging about past brides.

You do this by showcasing your expertise and knowledge.

Once a bride feels at least one of these things, you are on to a winner. Just think of yourself. When did you last buy something until you had one of those feelings?  A bride is just the same as you (just with a few extra Bridezillas moments!!).

Your homework

Have a think about how you can incorporate more of the above in what you do. One small change may make a huge amount of difference. People buy people at the end of the day, remember that one.

Using Facebook Live in your Wedding Business

22

AUGUST, 2016

Biz Sh*t
Brand

By now, unless you have been in hideout somewhere, you will have seen and heard a heck of a lot about Facebook Live but you may be sitting there thinking “Um, it is too late to ask questions now because I will feel silly!”. So I am going to answer those questions you feel silly asking in this blog post.

P.S. no question is ever a silly question…unless you are asking whether bees wear pants* or do cat’s have lips**

In this blog post I am going to walk you through what Facebook Live is, why it is great for your wedding business and I am also going to show you how you can use it with some practical video tutorials.

WHAT IS FACBOOK LIVE?

It is simply live video streamed straight from your mobile phone. A real “right here right now” kinda thing.

WHY IS IT SO BLUMIN GOOD?

Why does everyone (including me) love it so much? There are a couple of really cool reasons and I spent some time pondering the order these should go in but they are all equally cool so I have just listed them!

#1 Facebook LOVE FB Live – well of course they do, they invented it! But what I mean by that is that they give it priority on the newsfeed over other posts and this means that your organic reach jumps and that is a good thing.

#2 You don’t have to be all “set up”. Doing video in your wedding business can be super scary. I remember the first one I ever did, I was soooo nervous and looking back at it now, I am surprised ANYONE watched it…feeling brave, here is it (please don’t laugh!!!) https://youtu.be/5WPtc4_PJ3ohow flippin miserable do I look! This goes to show that with practice you get better! But the beauty of FB Live is that people kind of expect it to be a little imperfect because it is live, there is no stopping and starting you just have to go with it and if you fluff up, you carry on and it’s all fine. There are some things you still want to think about and I will share those in a moment.

#3 It is more natural. Because of exactly what I have just said above, this relaxed style means that you really do let your personality come across a lot more. You are more YOU and that is good – that is what connects with brides and grooms. If you fluff up you just have to carry on. Lots of my videos have had my cat jumping down off the shelf, I have dropped my phone, I have had it turned around the wrong way – you just have to giggle about it and move on. That is the beauty of FB Live.
#4 You can use the content elsewhere. You can embed a Facebook Live into your website or a newsletter so you can use the video in other places. I have a tutorial for you below showing you how to do this.
#5 The video goes automatically on your timeline and in your videos (unless you go in and delete it) so it has longevity which means that brides and grooms can see the video for longer than just the length of time it is in the newsfeed.

WHERE CAN YOU USE FB LIVE IN YOUR WEDDING BIZ?

Well I have shared some tips with you in the video above but there are lots and lots of things you can use FB Live for. Here are just some ideas to get the creative juices flowing!

> If you are at a wedding fayre, do quick live to let brides know you are there and what you have on show. Perhaps pal up with another wedding biz owner and do a little interview or a quick top tip!

> If you are just starting to work on an order or a design or if you are setting up a wedding, do a FB live to talk through what you are doing (being super careful that you don’t give away any secrets about the wedding or the bride – this would probably not go down to well!).

> If you have had some goodies in the post to start an order, do a video to show what they are and what they will be used for

> Talk through any new products or services that you have

> Demonstrate and show products that you have

> Share some wedding top tips that will help your

> If you have a freebie, break it down and do some FB lives to talk through the advice

There really are no end to the opportunities with FB Live and I have a challenge for you…

I DARE YA!

I dare ya to do a FB live. Once you have broken the barrier, you will love them and do more.

To help you I have two thoughts for you:

#1  If you are unsure about what to do your first FB Live I want you to do a FB live just literally introducing yourself, who you are and what you do. Do a “Face behind the brand” kind of FB live so that people can see who is behind your biz. That is not to scary right? OK< it is a little scary BUT do it – go on – I dare ya!

#2 If you are super scared of doing your FB live on your business page, find a safe place to do it. We are focussing on FB Live this month in the Wedding Biz Club and you can do a FB Live into this private members only group so you can fluff up in a safe place! . Join here for £9.99.

*For the record, I think they do.

The Power Paragraph

How one paragraph can hook your brides in & keep them there

29 JULY 2016 // YOUR COPY AND WORDS

When your ideal bride and groom land on your website and start to look at what you have to offer you need to capture their attention RIGHT FROM THE START. Being boring doesn’t cut it, you need to infuse the description with your passion and personality.

INTRODUCING THE POWER PARAGRAPH!

This is the opening paragraph that packs a punch (phew – there are lots of p’s in that!). The opening paragraph has to GRAB your brides attention. It has to be super clear and packed full of personality and intrigue.  If written with your ideal bride in mind, they will WANT to read more. You will use words that create an emotion. Words that draw them in. It will be so wonderfully laid out it will make it clear and easy WHAT they need to do to move closer to booking you.

Because that is the point of the product and service pages on your website right? To get brides to book you. This is also true for any products you have on external selling sites such as Etsy and Not on The High Street. They are so crowded with suppliers that you need to stand out, and you can do this with the descriptions you use for stuff you sell! Start with THE POWER PARAGRAPH (I felt like I had to write that in caps!) and you will be onto a winner.

{Bonus Tip} Also, the power paragraph can be stuffed with your key words, so that it helps your SEO – getting you even more interested brides and grooms visiting your site.

THE 5 P’S OF PRODUCT PAGES

The Power Paragraph is one of the 5 P’s of Product Pages that sell:

>> Passion

>> Personality

>> Power Paragraph

>> Persuasion

>> Process*

*I know process sounds boring (yawn!) BUT you need to have structure to your product pages – structure that draws your brides to reading more and that pulls them towards clicking THAT button. Pst…THAT button is the buy now, book now or enquire now button! After reading your sales page your bride should be COMPELLED to press that button – just like the “DO NOT PRESS” button in the glass elevator in Charlie and The Chocolate Factory…too hard to resist!

HOMEWORK

When was the last time you looked at your product and service page descriptions? Like really looked at this with a critical eye. Often times, they are created when you first create a product or service and then they get neglected.

>> If you are a wedding stationer, do your collections tell a story?

>> If you are a wedding planner, do your services really demonstrate the value and expertise you offer?

>> If you are a florist, do you really tell people what they get from booking with you, the consultations, the advice, the love and care?

>> If you are a wedding photographer, do you really set out the true value and attention you give your brides in the packages and services you offer?
>> If you are a wedding dress designer, do you make your brides feel compelled to want to find out more about what you offer?

Whatever your wedding awesome is (I could go on here…!) you NEED to really tell a story with the products and services that you offer. I get really sad when I see all the wonderful work wedding business owners are doing to get IN FRONT of their ideal brides and grooms, only to let it drop when they are sooooooo close to the finish line!

10 Steps to LAUNCH a new product of service

How to Launch a New Product or Service – 10 Steps to Launch Like a Boss.

1 APRIL 2016 // YOUR PRODUCTS

Hands up if you are guilty of this…

  • You work your BUTT off on something new – whether it is your fab freebie, your new website, a new product, a new design, a new service, a revived something
  • You have spent aaaaaaaaaggggggggggggeeeeeeessss on it
  • You know it is awesome
  • You have finally finished it
  • You post it on Facebook once or twice
  • You add it on to your website
  • You tick it off the “to do” list and wait for the orders to come in
  • Nothing happens
  • You feel fed up and move onto the next thing with a “meh” attitude

If you are sitting there nodding them you, my wedding biz friend, are not alone! I think this is something we are ALL guilty of, I know I have been there. I have created a fab freebie and just let it sit there. Seems silly right?

In this week’s 10 minute video masterclass I am sharing with you the 10 steps to launching with a BANG not a pop and a fizzle.  If you are sitting there thing “I don’t LAUNCH anything” then you should be. Launching isn’t just for big stuff…launching basically means sharing ANYTHING you do in your business with the world, with your brides and grooms. You know that new checklist you created to get brides to sign up to your mailing list, you know that new product you created, you know that service package you have updated – these are all things that you should be launching.

Here are the 10 steps:

Step #1 Build the anticipation with your brides and grooms and get them excited!

Step #2 – Get your message right – what is the product or service and who is it for

Step #3 – Use great visuals in your promotion because this is what is going to make your couples stop

Step #4 – Keep the images consistent across your promotion

Step #5 – Make sure that the image you use for promo is the same as what is one you use on your website

Step #6 – Make sure you link through to where to buy from the promo image – don’t send your interested brides on a wild goose chase around your website

Step #7 – Shout about it and KEEP shouting about it! Keep the momentum

Step #8 – Think about who can help you promote your new product or service

Step #9 – Plan your promo in to your social media and keep the momentum

Step #10 – Evaluate and review what worked and what didn’t

5 Ways to Stand Out at your next Wedding Fayre.

16 JANUARY 2016 // BIZ SH*T & YOUR PRODUCTS

Fed up of blending into the background at the wedding fayres you go to? Wondering what you can do to be different?

When you are surrounded by other suppliers, it is easy to think that your stand just doesn’t “do it!”. Everyone else seems to have lots of brides chatting to them, but why do they just look at your stand and move on?

Try one or two of these ideas:

1) GO UP!

When a room is packed full of suppliers you need to do something to get a bride to look at your stand from the other side of the room. Use your space most effectively and go upwards! You could DIY a stunning backdrop (check out my Pinterest Wedding Fayre Inspiration Board for some great ideas: https://uk.pinterest.com/wedbizbootcamp/wedding-fayre-display-ideas/. Please note: Be careful not to block out other suppliers, it is not good etiquette! If you have a vertical stand then tell the organiser and ask for a table by the wall.

2) STAND IN FRONT OR TO SIDE OF YOUR STAND

Be more open for conversation with your couples and stand in front or to the side of your stand. This removes the “supplier” “customer” barrier and makes you more open to have a natter. You can also pick up and show your goodies easier, some brides are nervous about messing up your display!

3) RUN A COMPETITION

Getting the brides email address is a must have at any fayre you go to (read the blog here) but you do have to offer something in return. A competition is a great idea – think about what you could offer that would be oh so tempting! It could be that you choose a winner at the end of each season so you are not having to give a prize away after each and every fayre that you do.

4) MAKE IT OBVIOUS

Make sure that it is super clear what you actually do. I know this sounds like a silly one BUT if you are, let’s say a wedding stationer but you have flowers on your stand to make it pretty, a bride may be confused about whether you are a stationer, a florist, a venue stylist…be super duper clear!

5) SMILE!

Obvious right? I cannot tell you how many wedding fayres I have been to and the supplier has been sitting down behind their stand, arms crossed looking so blumin’ miserable…that is NOT going to give your brides a warm fuzzy feeling! So, however naff or fed up you feel, don’t let it show!

SO go on, enjoy that wedding fayre and GO GET LOTS OF EMAIL ADDRESSES so you can follow up and fill your order book!

5 Reasons why e-newsletters grow your wedding business

Newsletters. Grow. Your. Business. #thatisall

9 JANUARY 2015 // BIZ SH*T & BRIDE EXPERIENCE

I really cannot stress enough how important it is to send newsletters to your brides and grooms, and I want to tell you 5 reasons why…

#1 Newsletters build the likeability factor!

Brides get to know more about you, your brand and your story. Brides need to know, like, and trust you before they book *in most cases!*

#2 You can demonstrate your expertise in a genuine, non salesy way by adding value and being helpful! This shows the skills you have and makes the bride want to book you.

#3 You are in control of your marketing. You are not relying on social media to show your posts, you are landing directly into the inbox of the brides that want to hear from you; they have money to spend; and that need your products and services.

#4 They keep you front of mind! You have to consistently land in the inbox of your brides so that when they are ready to book the service that you offer, they are more likely to book you!

#5 Newsletters gets you bookings! They are one of the best ways to complement your other marketing efforts…and they are free!

I can hand on heart say that newsletters have grown my business. They have grown the business of my wedding clients. If you want to grow your wedding business the #1 action I would advise you to do is SEND NEWSLETTERS!

What do you think? What stops you?

13 Marketing Strategies to book more brides

13 Marketing Strategies that will Book you More Brides.

9 NOVEMBER 2015 // YOUR PRODUCTS & YOUR SERVICES

“I don’t understand why I am not getting bookings!”. Wedding pros ask me this all of the time and my response is always the same…I ask “Ok, So tell me what you are doing right now to get those bookings.”

The trouble is the same with any business – you can work and work and work and when you stop and look you are not much further forward than before. This is normal. You are not crap. You are not rubbish. You are just focussing on the wrong things.

When I ask my clients what they are doing right now to get bookings they normally ponder for a bit and then say, “I’m not sure actually, but I know I am working my butt off! What am I going?!”.

The key to successful marketing is to know WHO you are talking to, know WHAT your MESSAGE is and then putting it in the RIGHT places!

So here I want to share with you 13 marketing strategies that you can do to move forward with your marketing.BUT. I want you to focus on two to start with and do them really really well. Stop flitting from one to another. Choose the ones that are going to give you the best return and that you are going to find the most enjoyable.

13 Marketing Strategies for your wedding business:

  • Facebook
  • Twitter
  • Instagram
  • Pinterest
  • Newsletters
  • Styled shoots
  • Your own website blog
  • Wedding fairs
  • Working with venues
  • Promotion on your website
  • 3rd party selling sites – Etsy and Not on the High Street
  • Guest blogging
  • Paid for advertising

So, my plea to you is to choose two to start with and do them consistently and to a high standard. Consistency builds traction and traction brings bookings.

A lesson about standing out

There was a Horse in the Beer Garden. A lesson about standing out.

15 OCTOBER 2015 // YOUR PRODUCTS & BRIDE EXPERIENCE

So me and my friend went to lunch in a country pub. We walked through the little wooden gate into a beautiful beer garden where people had spilled out from inside as it was an unusually warm October day. And there, standing in the middle of the beer garden, was a HUGE horse. Standing next to a picnic table where its owners were sitting having a drink. This made me and my friend stop in our tracks because it was something totally unexpected and totally unusual. We don’t normally come to this pub.

BUT, ye oldie locals that were sitting there didn’t even blink an eye. It was obviously a ‘usual’ thing that didn’t even spark a conversation anymore.

WHAT IS THE BLUMIN’ POINT OF THIS POST EMMA? I AM BUSY!

So, the point of this post is to say that the more people see the same old same old they become blind to it. Something that was one strange, odd and started conversations now just blended into the background. This is the same with the wedding industry. For you to stand out in your wedding business you need to do something different. You need to stand out from crowd and keep standing out from the crowd. This comes down to you and your branding and your profile. What is it about our branding that makes you YOU. What makes what you do special and unique and one of a kind. Because the likelihood is that you are one of a kind. If you are reading this blog you are probably a handmaker, a handcrafter, a designer of your products and services. Yes, lots of other people do the same type of thing but no one does what you do in the way that you do it.

So my food for thought from this blog is WHAT CAN YOU START TO DO TODAY TO STAND OUT FROM THE CROWD?

ACTION: Go grab a piece of paper and spend 15 minutes just scribbling, writing and brainstorming and you may find that you come up with something you can weave into what you do which makes you stand out.

BE THE HORSE WITH A UNICORN HAT ON – that would make people stand up and look.

Using Instagram to connect with your Brides

How to use Instagram to connect to Brides.

9 OCTOBER 2015 // BIZ SH*T

Instagram is a great platform for you to build your credibility in the wedding industry, both with brides and other wedding professionals. It helps you tell you story and brings your brand to life – two things that are essential in creating that emotional connection with brides (which is what makes them buy!).

Before I get into some top tips about how you can use Instagram really effectively in your business, I just want to tell you what it is really all about, in case you are not 100% sure!

Instagram is a social media platform that is centered on beautiful images. It is about telling a story. A story of you, your brand and your products or services. It helps you to create that emotional connection with brides because they see a sneak peek behind the scenes look of you and what you do. It helps you to build a consistent and striking brand that will help you stand out from the competition.  Instagram works in a similar way to Facebook (indeed Facebook own it!) in that it runs as a news feed so images you post appear in the news feeds of people who follow you.

“Capture and share the world’s moments” is the tagline for Instagram.

So, why is it a great platform to use in your wedding business?

#1 It is very visual…and we know how visual the wedding industry is. Brides buy off pictures.

#2 It is very likely that your ideal bride is hanging out on there. Over 90% of the users on Instagram are under the age of 35.

#3 Instagram users are likely to spend 15x more time on Instagram than on Facebook

#4 It is free and super duper easy to use (download the free checklist at the end of this blog to help you get started)

#5 You can post on it when and wherever you like – all you need is your phone and access to the internet!

#6 It really helps you to bring your brand to life and this is what a lot of wedding professionals struggle to do

So what do you post on Instagram?

Anything that supports your brand. Anything that your ideal bride will love. Anything that helps bring your brand to life and tell your story (because that is why brides buy).

Here are some ideas:

  • Take a picture of an order in progress and post a sneak peek
  • Take a picture when you are setting up for a wedding
  • If you are attending a wedding fayre, take a picture of any goodies you have on the day
  • Just bought some new material, a new hire piece or a new piece of equipment – snap it and post it!
  • Working on a new design, take a pic
  • Posting a blog? Use the image from the blog and post it
  • Have a top tip? Create a meme and post it
  • Post a pic of you working away on an order

What do I need to do on Instagram to make it work for me?

  • Use the descriptions well – make them searchable and use key words that your ideal bride will search for
  • Use hashtags (word of warning: don’t overuse them and look at them twice to make sure they are appropriate…even the most innocent of words can make something rude when put together…!)
  • Link other Instagram users using the @username
  • Add your location if you are a location based business
  • Find, follow, like and comment on others Instagram feeds, just like you would with any other social media platform
  • Connect with others in the industry and start to build relationships
  • Share your Instagram account and grow your followers
  • Make sure your account is public

A few things to mention when it comes to Instagram…

It is not for the hard sell. Instagram is all about building that know, like and trust factor. It is about building a strong brand which will make you stand out. If done correctly, it will drive sales and bookings because brides will know more about you and like what they see – that is what will make them book!

  • Be consistent! Post regularly, Instagram suggest 1-3 times a day.
  • Don’t spam! Don’t post 20 pictures in a row…this will make your followers unfollow you (which leads to a sad face)
  • Make sure you are being your brand and adding good quality content that your ideal brides will want to see and engage with (pardon the pun)

Instagram really is a great social media platform and with 90% of the users being under 35 your ideal brides are most likely hanging out on it! Once you have your account set up and running you can run your Instagram account in just an hour a week. So, what are you waiting for?

Do you build anticipation enough?

Do you build anticipation?

7 OCTOBER 2015 // BIZ SH*T

When you create something new in your business do you build the anticipation? Do you say “Eeeek….new wedding stationery collection coming soon – I can’t wait to share it with you!” OR do you just post it on Facebook once and that’s that?

Whether you are a vocal artist and you have been mastering some new tracks, whether you are a handmaker of accessories and you have been working on some new designs, whether you are a cake maker and you have been perfecting the next big thing, you WILL have something in your business that you can shout about and get excited about.

Do you launch your new thing properly, with a BANG, or is it more like a little pop and fizzle?

The movies are a great example of building anticipation. They will be promoting a movie months, if not years, before it is actually released.

“COMING SUMMER 2016, THE EPIC ADVENTURE EVERYONE IS TALKING ABOUT”.

What this does is it builds the anticipation so that when the movie is released people are more likely to take notice and be excited about it…they KNOW about it!

Ok, I know you don’t have a million trillion pounds to spend on a big fancy pants advertising campaigns BUT there are lots of things you can do to start to get the most marketing mileage out of everything you do in your wedding business (because that is essentially what we are doing here).

Here are some steps for you to follow next time…

#1 Plan

Plan when you want to release that new thing you are working on. Let’s say you are a stationery designer and you would like to launch two new collections a year. Plan them out.

#2 Make time to DO it

Now you have planned roughly what time of year you want to shout about your new thing, make time in your schedule to do it. Otherwise it will not get done. You know this, I know this, anyone who runs a business knows this. To develop and grow in your business you need to set time aside and just get on and DO it.

#3 Set a ‘go live’ date!

Publicly announce the date that you are going to ‘launch’ or ‘release’ your new collection/service/offering. Setting a date will help you on two fronts, firstly it pushes you to get it done (let’s be honest, how many times have you thought “I will do that by the end of the month” and then the end of the month comes round and you move that thing onto the to do list for the next month….), secondly, it enables you to build the anticipation on your social media channels and in your newsletters.

#4 Start building that anticipation

Work backwards. A month before the ‘live’ date, start to build the anticipation. “One month till release…watch this space for new designs!” “Phew – I am super excited about these new tracks I have been perfecting…can’t wait to share them with you”. Keep the momentum up!

#5 Keep it consistent

When you start to build the anticipation, keep the message and the branding consistent so that it starts to build that recognition factor. Stick to the same kinds of images, the same colour and style of font – this will help to embed it into the minds of your brides.

#6 When the date comes, launch with a BANG!

Don’t just post once “Yay, new website released”…show your excitement and your pride in what you have achieved! Brides are busy, as are their social media channels and their inboxes, you have to shout and keep shouting until you are fed up of seeing it!

YOUR ACTION

So why not take some time this week and plan that “thing” that you want to do. Set the date of when you are going to go live with it and get it done. Follow the steps above and you will see that you can really get some excitement about the projects you are working on. And we could all do with a bit more excitement in our lives!
